I couldn’t resist the deal on this 311. It matches my dad’s 20ga 311a that he bought in the early 60’s. My research shows the 311d was only made in 68-69, with the ‘69 models having serial numbers due to the congressional firearms law of 1968. The barrel is stamped “12V,” making it December 1968 build, possibly the last run of 311’s without a serial number. Regardless, the color case hardening is clearly visible. It locks up tight and has that “nice” appearance to it. The left barrel of the 28” full/mod choke is a tight one, for a dime won’t fit down either side. It’s more of a “F/IM” choke, which is irrelevant. I didn’t buy it for the chokes. It’s a perfect companion to a 20 ga 311 that I couldn’t wait to shoot as a kid. This was one of those nostalgic, emotional purchases that just makes you smile. Yes, it will get shot. It will find a grouse or two, maybe even a turkey? No matter, I’m proud to have found it a home.

Quite handsome. I understand the emotional attachment. A fine addition to your arsenal, without a doubt.

Nice find, just a few months older than me. It's amazing how well firearms last when taken care of. Hopefully you get many grouse and turkeys with it.
