I have a ruger M77 and its got a very stiff trigger, what can I do to fix that? Or is there a replacement trigger I can get that does not cost an arm and a leg?

I don't think Ruger triggers are adjustable.
Midway.com has Jard and Timney triggers for the 77. I've never owned one but I have heard good things about timney. It is adjustable from 1.5 to 3.5 pounds.

I'v got 2 M77 rugers and I put timmny triggers in both thier set at 2.5 lbs and they both shoot .5 @ 100 yards with almost everything nosler makes. I can't remember the cost maybe a $100 but you will be happy with the results.

The early (pre-warning, tang safety) M77's have adjustable triggers. I think the origional manuals had the details. Otherwise, a gunsmith or a replacement is needed.

I have replaced a number of my Remington triggers with Jewell triggers and am very happy with them. However, I do not think they make one for the Ruger rifles.

Several of my friends have put Timney triggers in Ruger rifles in the last year and they are VERY pleased with them. I would suggest that you give them a try.

ok it looks like I will be trying to get a timmny trigger then, looks like most people like that one. I got the trigger pull gauge out and it stops registering at 72 oz. and this trigger didnt even register. Is this something I will be able to do myself or should I have a gunsmith do it?

You should be able to put the Timney in yourself, I am sure my buddies did on their Ruger rifles.

I just put a Jewell trigger in my Remington 700XCR last week. It was no problem except the Jewell is a little wider than the original trigger so I had to whittle on the stock some to get it to fit.

ok I screwed up guys, its actually an M77 mark 2, when I looked on midway they only had them for the M77, is this enter changable with the mark 2? Or do they make one specifically for the mark 2?

I just looked at midway.com and they have the timney trigger for a mark 2 m 77 in right or left handed. good luck

Matts318. When you order one just tell them what you have and they'll get you the right one.

ok thanks guys, I got overtime on my next paycheck so Im going to check it out, I really want to do this, I love the rifle but this trigger has to go

how many rounds have you shot in this mkII. mine smothed right out after a couple hundred. now it is crisp and i get 3/4" groups

its got just over 100 rounds threw it, its an accurate rifle but I feel I could shoot it better with a good trigger, I never shot a rifle with a trigger heavier than 2.5lbs, and thats what my winchester m70 breaks at with a factory trigger. I found the trigger for $85 so at some point this summer I will have get it.

I just bought my first Ruger 77 MKII this week  in .280 Remington. Beautiful gun but have already planned to put a Timney trigger in it.

Matts318........................I own a Ruger M77 Frontier Mk2 scout compact with the 16.5" barrel in a 300 WSM.....These triggers are not adjustable. The mechanism must be changed.....I had my gunsmith do it. Cost $115 for parts & labor. My trigger pull is now 2.75 lbs. but originally was over 5 pounds. The original pull really sucks from Ruger........When I called Ruger, I was told that the reason the triggers are set at about 5 pounds, is for liability reasons.............Mine works great now!
