For the life of me it seems like not too long ago, that someone posted a question about stock finishing and what works for them. Nodak7mm had sent this to me quite a while back. I tried it on my old Remington .22 LR pump action, and it really turned out nice. I thought I would throw it up here so guys can take a peek at it. I think I did it properly, it looks nice anyway.

Where is your rifle, David?
See if I can find a picture for you Mike. This does not show it very well.

Little better picture. I'll see if I can do some close-ups tomorrow.

Okay outside in good light would have been easier Mike. I just grabbed it and put it on the bed and snapped a few. The pictures really don't do it justice as it does look pretty nice. I used nothing but my fingers when I was rubbing the finish on and I rubbed and rubbed. The fore-end piece is unusual on this rifle because on one side it is a lot lighter than the opposite side. That's not your mind playing tricks on you. I was happy with how it turned out and I would jump at the chance to do another one if I ever need to. It was fun. I did take lots of time and sanded the heck out of it , raised the grain, and then sanded some more.

David,

I agree that it turned out pretty well. The wood does have some nice features. Now, I could see myself getting into this with a couple of old shooters.

David,
Did you use bone black to pop that grain? Looking good!
Scott

I did not. I just sanded the heck out of it and tried to get the finger grooves in the fore-end cleaned out as best as I could without destroying the edges of the grooves. There was about 30 years of built up stuff in there. I just sanded the heck out of it and went finer and finer until it was baby butt smooth and did tried to follow the instructions that this guys put on the forum. Nice piece of wood for just an old Remington pump .22!

Nice work man! Looks really nice- but dosent look over done (i.e. dipped in Eurothane) like it would if I'd have done it. CL

That looks great! What a neat little rifle. I really like the way the grain in the buttstock shows so well. Cool.

I'm a .22 nut case though - my favorite rifles.

That is a beautiful peice of wood and though I didn't see it before, it looks like you really brought it to life.

I should have taken a before and after. The improvement was most noticeable. Thanks.

That turned out awesome!
Thanks Jake. I'm pleased with it. I now wish I would have done a before and after. Oh well, a little late now!

I have to comment on the Rem Pump. I seen this and it brought alot of memories back. I have one of these and I used to shoot it all the time. But like every gun owner that has spent years buying diffrent guns and the other ones keep getting shoved to the back of the Gun vault they don't get shot anymore. If we had kids this would be the one they would learn on. I love the very fine front sight and through the years I have become very accurate with it. Does the model that you have shoot shorts ? Anyway thanks for posting it and I will take mine out next week when I go to the range.
