Hello all, I have been afforded the opportunity to procure some 96 and 95 small ring mauser actions. Here are my thoughts/questions... I would like a straight wall cartridge that I could take to the states that require them because I live near many of those states, however, I am not too awfully interested in any of the short action ones such as 450 bushmaster because of the length of the mauser actions, I was wondering about long action/standard action straight walled cartridges and what some starter loads would be for them. Would something off of 30-06 work. 40-06 maybe?

Doesn’t some of those straight wall states cap the case length?
What about the grand old 444? I have heard it is the same case head size as the 06.. Might be able to make that work and in a bolt gun, I can't see anything stopping that, as far as deer species.

How about something like a longer version of the old 44 auto mag.
