A kid in my hometown just got most of what he deserved last week. I shot in the same trap league as this kid and during practice rounds, he thought it was funny to shoot the clays when I said pull. I did not think it was funny but its just an example of what kind of person he is. Well a couple years ago, a bull moose was poached not to far from here in an area that there are no permits available. He was convicted of poaching the bull that was an 1/8th of an inch from qualifying as a trophy. He shot it right off the road. Claimed he thought it was a mule deer and that he couldnt see its head but funny thing is, he shot it in the neck. The judge sentenced him with not being able to hunt or fish for 15 years, cant be around guns or have guns, has to pay close to $7,000 in fines, and tons of community service. He cant even camp on state lands for 15 years. Also, the judge told him, that the first time he messes up, he is going straight to jail. Hopefully this will eliminate him cruising up and down the dirt road about 2mph that borders the property I deer hunt looking for a deer to shoot off the road. Im extremely happy they didnt let him off easy like they do with most people.

Im really surprised that the judge didnt let him off. The judge is usually really lenient with everything. Kids will get MIPs or speeding tickets and he will just give them a little community service for an MIP or if they get a speeding ticket, he just tells them that if they dont get another one in the next couple months he will put it in his drawer and then throw it out

Definitely sends a clear message to other would be poachers. I always think its funny how all these people think they are too smart to get caught, then get caught.

I personally feel that kind of penalty for a truly case of poaching in this province is worth it's weight in gold. I have experience more poachers in the bush than true sports man, sad thing to say but I have spent alot of time in the field and that's what I see. Just because one uses a legal tag when it arrives at the butcher does not make it a legal kill. :x
