Please pardon my ignorance but I can't find directions on how to taper-crimp. The lab comments indicate that for a semi-auto this may have to be done. I thought maybe it was a special set of dies but when I looked at our local sporting goods store I didn't see any specifications indicating that they would produce a taper-crimp.

What cartridge are you loading? The taper crimp is usually done on straight walled semi auto pistol ammo (45acp, 9mm, ect) in place of a roll crimp that is done on rifle or heavy recoiling handgun (revolver) rounds. The taper crimp is used because of the cartridge headspaceing on the case mouth and not the shoulder, belt or rim. Anything that alters the base to mouth lenght will have effect on the headspace and roll crimping shortens the loaded case lenght in relation to the chamber.
Taper crimp dies usually are marked on the die body as such, I doubt you`ll find one for a bottleneck rifle round.

Ol'Joe, check the Redding catalog. They have taper crimp dies for 223, 7.62x39, 30/30, 308Win, 30/06, 300WinMag and300Rum.Rick.
