Tennessee Buck falls to the 35 Whelen

Dub,
Long season for sure, I have a few pics of some nice bucks bigger than the one I killed. Would love to introduce one of them to the Whelen too. But then there is always the good eating Doe I'm in search of as well. Which ever crosses the barrel first is alright with me. Hello minute steaks and Venison Loin!!

Don

Very nice. Gotta love the DRT!

Hope the Whelen speaks to his older brother as well. Good luck with the rest of the season.

Fotis,

Rem 700 Classic 22" barrel
225 AB
Rem re-sized cases
59.0 RL-15
CCI 200 primer
2677 fps

Puts 2 shots in same hole at 100 yds in two different trips to range off bench tri-pod and rear bags.

Fotis,
Check out Scotty's Whelen load too. I think he is shooting 60.0 grains of RL-15 and using CCI-250 mag primers. He is getting around 2700 fps plus I believe. Good groups too.

Finally got a chance to post a couple pictures of the buck I got. Hope you enjoy them.

He has nice spread, Don, and a bit of mass, as well. Very nice. Congratulations, again.

Sometimes mature deer grow just forks, sometimes they are forks all their lives. I think natural selection in trophy only horn areas drives this sometimes.

I read that in Wyoming, they stopped the 4-point only hunting areas because natural selection had favored lifelong fork horn deer, with the population balance of mule deer bucks became selected forks. An old deer is still a trophy, fork horn or not!

The Hunt Club I belong to has 1100 acres. To qualify as a shooter Buck they have to be 8-pt. and or 16" outside spread. We can shoot Doe based on sighting numbers. Our area was hit with the blue tongue disease a few years back and now the herd is on the rebound. I had two trail cams overlooking Mineral Licks, which are legal in Tennessee. I was greatly encouraged getting pics of a lot of young bucks mixed with quite a few shooter bucks and Doe with twins including button Buck. The bonus was getting four pics of the one I killed. We had a few conversations about him before the season opener, concluding he most likely would not get as larger rack. We can shoot 3 Buck on the Tennessee Big Game License, but only 2 at the club.

I have my interest in one particular Buck that I got pics, he is a 7-pt with a broken Brow Tine, 18"-19" spread and the body size of a Tank, just a Brute.

Thanks Scotty,
Was out today saw 3-buck, one was a shooter buck by our Club standards, had him dead to rights but let him pass. Nice 8-point though. The Whelen almost spoke again! I'll try to take a Doe later in the season. Had an awesome morning hunt. Bucks chasing the Doe. Rut is in full swing now, at least here.
