Gotta love that. No quota year round isn't that open season? Buy tags until they say no more!
Would you mind answering the three questions to the post and if you want to add a fourth answer to the question"Elkman" brought up to the post in reference to when the tags expire that would be OK as well.

All answers can be found in the photo copied pages provided.

Yes I know I've read the regulation I understand the 5 quota but the way it's worded dang. It makes no sense, maybe a first grader wrote it. I've read the bear and wolf regs as I'm going on a bear hunt late May early June.

You should see Nevada's it's just as confusing for elk and bonus points.

With the new information provided its clear. The tags expire at "The end of the calender year".

Ok, so by now you might be wondering why I asked this? Now to get you up to speed, I bought my license last year on 06/25/2014 thinking I better get another one of this tags in case I ever come across a wolf. The regulations for wolves are those dates: July 1st- June 30th or until they come out each year.

Now in my "feeble mind" reading the heading 2014-2015 and the dates open, had me believing I had a valid license wolf tag, which was not the case. Even though I had emailed the Senior ID Fish and Game officer for this area on both occasions right after each incident reporting my intentions and actions.

I'm still at fault and face being fined whether or not I killed this animal for the soul purpose for prevention of harm to my Dog and Lori whom as you all know is legally blind.

Oh, and I also made the call to the hot line about the incident at 8 AM, only to be asked for my license and nothing was ever said and why would it? After the call I cut the tag thinking....... Oh I better do this since no word from the F&G officer other then "Great Job" but I was hoping he'd come pick it up, only the snow had the internet down, so I took it to town. After two people were more then half way through filling out a Big Game mortality report did he notice the 2014 tag/licenses?

But Hey, if you have no guilty knowledge of any wrong doing, you'd think how did I get myself in this mess? The people at the F&G office said this wasn't the first time this has happened, and don't fret over it, but it will be up to the very guy I emailed many times in the past and both times about the past week.

Any way he told me over the phone I'll get a citation for hunting without a license and possession of a wolf although that is YTBD since it was a half breed. Funny how that all happens when you're thinking one thing and it ends up being something else!

Oh, I did receive an email saying thank you for filling my report with the ID F&G.

For the Panhandle the season runs from July 1st to June 30th, which is year around, on private land. The take time is the same, year around. The tags for wolf hunting are valid from Jan. 1st to Dec. 31.

I take it you took your wolf in and they are trying to tell you the season was closed because it closes on public ground the 31st of March? That's their screw up if they printed the regs wrong.
No this animal was taken less then 100 yards from my front door, and on private property, but as you stated the season cycle is July 1st through June 30th but the license runs on a calendar year cycle.

Hopefully the outcome will work out for you. I would think that the "threatening" would get you a pass as well as the other appropriate things you did. !!!!!

It's a honest mistake that I'm sure you wont make again. The trapping tag expiration thing makes it confusing and they should make the dates the same on all of them. I duck hunt and have had January elk tags in the past so I know about license and tag expiration dates.

No I wont make that mistake EVER AGAIN!

Yesterday I went to ask the owner of the Gas Station down the street whom I know that sells the Licenses and Tags and has for years these same basic three question with the book in front of him as I was looking at it and him even thinking the same thing until I said are your Sure!?!

"Oh, no, they expire at the end of the year" he said, he said "I know that because the Duck Hunters have to worry about that rule every year". So even someone that sells hundreds of these got mixed up on when the tag/license expired!

Actually the Idaho Law on that part is not really helpful. Here's the link to that:

http://fishandgame.idaho.gov/public/wil ... etPage=167

So I don't think it is fair to say "Hunting without a license or Tag" vs. "Hunting without a valid license or Tag" on the citation I received. Simply on the basis that it's untrue! That and it makes my actions look far worse then perceived to anyone reading the citation, the judge for one or anyone looking at it. That doesn't sit well with me at all.

It appears to be the ol money grab to me!! It's something your fish and game association needs to bring forward to your politicians .. Ya good luck with that.
Here your late season elk tag is valid until the season closes , not on the year end . Which makes more sense?
They opened a spring snow goose season here this spring , now our Fedral migratory stamp from last fall is valid , but Alberta prov. gov decided you have to purchase this years wildlife certificate before hunting!! Strange and simply a money grab.
