These are the groups I shot this morning. The bigger group was with 90grs of H-1000 and was 6 shots including a clean barrel fouler. The second group was 4 shots at 91grs of H-1000 and is in the high .2's. I saved one round to chronograph but I realized I forgot my tripod for the chronograph.

That is some great shooting for a new barrel. What was your load Nathan. That looks like it is ready for elk in a couple of months.

Enviable shooting, Nathan. Congratulations on a fine job both of building and of shooting.

It's a Remington 700 SS action with just the lugs lapped, no other truing. The barrel is a Kreiger SS 9.35 twist 1.25" for 10" and then straight taper to 1" at the muzzle @ 30". Prior to these two groups it had 9 rounds through the barrel breaking it in with 88grs and 89grs of H-1000 with 300gr SMK's. It's didn't like the 88gr and 89gr loads nearly as well as the 90 and 91gr loads. It also has a Jewell 1 1/2oz trigger with a 6.5x20 Leupold in a HS stock. When I get a chance to finish the 40X wood stock I'll transfer it into it. It's not a fly weight rifle but I didn't care about the weight. It's job is to shoot long range and come in under the 16lb weight limit for hunting here.

For sure that"s straight shooting hihi, Im on the process of building one for me.
I have the action, its a montana profesional hunter (by the way big action for big stuff), has amagazine lenght of 4.043, you can leave those long bullets out.
what"s the oal of your rounds? 3.7..???
Im waiting for my broughton t9.3 finished to 30in also, will use the only stock there is for the
Montana action and its a Montana Stock made specially by boyds.
Do you have the dies??? or are u using .338rum and .375rum dies??
post some pics of your rig as soon as I have mine ready will post some.

Nice!
The 338 Edge is an impressive round.
I am going to try H1000 in the 338 RUM with the 300 gr AB.

it will be a good experiment to see if the t10 i think that twist has your
.338 rum works with the 300gr, get them stabilize.
I like this cal in special, .338 WM, .338RUM and the edge.
The most problem with the edge is getting those long bullets out, cause
magazines so short.
Good luck with your experiment.
For hunting purposes those 225 and 250 Accubonds should work from mice to very big
animals.

I wish I could get my Edge to shoot like this. I've not been able to get it to shoot anything except the 250gr SGK, and that is not a good LR bullet at all. What was the jump you used on the 300gr. SMK's?

COAL is 3.830". It actually has a short throat for 250's. Right now it has a magazine in the stock it's in because it needs one but it will be a single shot in the 40X stock. When your shooting long range you usually have time for a second shot around here. I have .338RUM and .375RUM dies. I might buy a Edge FL die though as they aren't that expensive (60.00 to 65.00). There are some pictures of it the way it is right now on here already but here is one I have on my computer.

BTW a 10" twist is plenty for 300gr bullets. I just ordered a 9.35 twist because a buddy of mine has had 2 and he build another for a friend and all of them were stupid accurate. The one he built for a friend out shoots his dasher benchrest rifle. It shoots in the .0's and .1's. It was built on a un-trued Remington action also with a Max HV contour.

300,

I loaded this ammo about a month or month and a half ago before it got scalding hot so I'm not 100% sure on depth but I think it was right around .050" off the lands.

Nathan,

Your 338 Edge is a sharp looking rig.

I ran a few loads this evening with H1000 in the 338 RUM and the 300 gr AB. Accuracy was good but the speed was too low.
Nosler's listed MAX load is 86.0 grs.
Avg MV was 2550 fps
ES 25
SD 8

I reshot Retumbo and got the following-
91.5 grs
Avg MV 2675 fps
ES 18
SD 8

This is a new 8lb keg and is slower than my last batch, which yielded 2742 fps.
Maybe I need a 338 Edge?

I think RL33 will be your huckleberry Jim, or maybe Viht N570.. They list some great speeds for those two powders with the 300 AB on QL.

I've sure been burning a lot of VN570 in recent days. I just order another Kg to ensure that I have some available.

You might need one Jim. The down side is trying to fit them into a magazine. I'm actually surprised that 86grs is the max in the RUM. I've had this batch of H-1000 for awhile and I've heard the newer lots are faster so I might have to drop this load when I buy new powder. I'll make sure to take the chronograph out the next time to find out my ES and SD. Hopefully the ES is in the single digits. If it is I'll air a few out and see how it does at long range.
