To Bearpaw Outfitters for a whitetail hunt up north. I first tried out my Savage 99 in 300 Savage but that rifle us going to take more time than I got to work with it. So I move next to my Kimber in 257 Roberts. Looking at 45.0grs of H4350 for 3000 fps. using 100 NPT and 43 grains of H4350 with ABs in W-W +p brass and cci 200 primers. So far it's looking real promising for success. Two more months to go and so much more to do. Can't wait. Thanks guy miner.

You should be well with the Bob; it is a fine cartridge. We're pulling for you to connect with a great deer.

Good luck with the 257 Roberts! Pretty darned awesome cartridge. Hope you score on a great buck.

It should be a fun hunt! I'm sure you'll have no problem filling the freezer, but it might take a while to find one of the bigger bucks in the area.

Best of luck! Your rifle/load should work very well.

Man... A Kimber in .257 Roberts. That is some kind of cool right there....

I agree nothing wrong with the .257 Roberts at all. It is an all-time classic and is one heck of a cartridge! Best of luck finding a huge old buck.

Thanks fellas. I sure do appreciate the encouragement. Did more range work today and if I do my part I'm consistently getting just less than an inch. Sunday I will go up in the hills and practice in field positions.

Sounds as if you have a fine load. The Kimbers are attractive; that's for certain.

Now thats a "Bob". I'd give the AB a try with Reloder 22. You should be able to top 3000 fps with the 110 AB and it has grouped great in my rifle and a couple on this board have also had good luck with Reloder 22. That should take care of any whitetail.

Ya just gotta love the 257 Roberts!
Here is another load option for you.
115 gr BT with RL22 shoots lights out from a M700 Classic with a 24" barrel.

I found one pound of RL22 locally a few months back and worked up loads for a 264WM and that's the last I've seen of any. If I could find some more I'd work with it. Such is the times we're living in. I was tickled spitless when I came upon an 8# keg of H4350 I'm using now.

I am pretty sure I have some RL-22 that we could make a fair deal on. I also live in Wa not far from Goldendale. I will be home in a couple of days. Its either new or just had a few rounds shot out of it, and only a year or so old.

Elkman, thank you so much for the kind offer. I am to the point where I won't be load developing anymore till after my hunt. I am going to practice, practice, practice and be as sharp as I can for my hopefully first deer. Thank you again.

Outstanding!

Best of luck to you.

Now don't get me wrong, that is a beautiful rifle you posted the picture of......but I wanna see the Savage 99!

Here ya go. Serial number dates to 1946. One of the last Utica Savages before they moved to Chicopee Falls. I have a Leupold on it now since it was already d&t before I got it.
