The difference a barrel can make...

Ha! Well there you go. Sounds like a great course of action for a Remington! Ha!

Never mind...I think I figured it out...shot start pressure.

Loaded to 3.34" in the 70 is likely pretty darn close to the lands...or at least it was in my 30-06 (.005" off)

It would be interesting to measure case capacity from the two chambers.

Rem 700 = 70.7 grains
Win 70 = 70.5 grains

Used brass from each rifle that had the same dry/empty weight...

When I put 70.5 grain in QL for the case capacity...the projection isn't even close....I measured the bullets, seating depth, shank depth, etc...and edited those values also...why does QL say 2,850 fps is all it will do with 54 grains of H4350?

What am I missing?

I would probably have to see more numbers from both RR. Without knowing you shot at least 9 or so outta both I'd be more inclined to believe the 2850 vs 3050. UNLESS your Winchester is slightly larger in diameter or something along those lines. Usually in standard rifles with standard dimensions QL will be just about spot on.

Just checked...this rifle isn't quite the same as the 30-06...3.34" is .080" off the lands.

Got me to thinking...

So I just went and fired 5 more rounds (all I had loaded from last year)...with the sun down...I always set my chrono in the shade, but sometimes it messes with me anyways...this is one of those times.

New chrono readings...

2,943 fps
2,943 fps
2,943 fps
2,923 fps
2,962 fps

Avg. = 2,942 fps
ES = 39 fps
SD = 13 fps

I believe that to be accurate...but it still doesn't match QL unless I tweak the start pressure.

The 2,850 fps for the Remington with this load is correct though...I chrono'd probably close to 100 rounds with with that rifle....shooting over the chrono during sight in, range practice, etc.

Nice. Good luck at the range. Looks like a good day of shooting.

It could be a little faster lot of powder than what QL used for testing so that'll account for some of the difference.

Yeah....I played with the burn rate some last night... it didn't take much at all to make things match.

Good deal. I just monkey'ed around with mine as well. Looking forward to seeing your accuracy results with the rifle. It is a beautiful set up.

Chrono data for the 55 grains of H4350/ 130 Ballistic Tip load...10 shot average, 2,980 fps...SD and ES are acceptable (Win brass) for the intended use of this rifle...

She's ready...
