There is a nice little 7 pt with a crab claw hanging out back. I have seen him a few time during bow season but let him walk.
I put my camera up and he is still around after 10 days of gun season. Perfect for my daughter to pursue.

A couple of mornings ago, we sat in the blind and the elusive 7 pt came in at 8:15 AM. My daughter is using my old M700 ML 50 cal loaded with 2 777 pellets and a Nosler .429" 240 gr JHP. The buck finally turned at 40 yds giving us a perfect shot. When Danielle squezed the trigger, the rifle went click! The buck was watching us as I lifted the bolt to recock it. I coached her to put the Nosler right into the shoulder and this time it went pop! The #11 cap went off but didn't ignite the pellets. I was dumbfounded that the damn thing didn't fire. The buck ran off and we looked at each other. All I could think was #^@#%!!!!
Here he is just moments before the click and pop.

We have gone to plan B which is my T/C Omega 50 cal loaded with 2 777 pellets and a .458" 300 gr BST. With the 209 primer ignition system, I know she will fire. We went out Thankgiving AM and PM but didn't see anything. We heard a shot at 5:00 PM from the neighbor and hoped that they didn't shoot Dannielle's elsive 7 pt buck. We went out this morning and did not see any deer. I was begining to think that maybe the 7 pt was gone but I checked the trail cam and guess what, the elusive 7 pt was in this morning a 1/2 hour before we arrived to the blind.

I have my fingers crossed that this elusive 7 pt gives Danielle one more opportunity. She is ready to take him down.

Wow! That would be extremely frustrating. I'm pulling for your daughter to tag him soon. It is always good to have a plan "B."

Jim sorry the gun misfired for Danielle but I'm quite sure she will get another crack or should I say boom at him again.

Good luck Jim! I bought a bran new can of the CCI no. 11 Mags and 75% of them wouldn't go bang. I was pretty upset. A buddy gave me some Remington ones and they worked way better.

Keep us posted on getting that buck on the dirt!

Well you still have a few days then muzzleloading season..... I didn't realize you couldn't use rifles in your area. How about a Contender pistol? Hint, Hint.

Looks to me Jim that you were just giving him a chance and didn't want her to harvest him right away, just making it sporting!!

Hopefully he'll come in again. Good luck.

Thanks fellas.
Long,

I live 3 miles south of the rifle line so we have to use a shotgun, muzzle loader or straight walled pistil cartridge.
I do not have a slug barrel, I have always hunted with a muzzle loader or handgun.

Next year, Danielle just might have her own slug gun and/or muzzle loader.

Ah, but what about a Contender in 35 Rem or 44 ? Muzzle break etc....eh....eh?

Can't use a bottle neck cartridge in the shotgun zone. I already have a S&W 629 classic 44 Mag.

Best of luck to you two! I sure hope she tags that buck.

Never had a mis-fire with my muzzle loader in the field, but I sure had some in practice sessions. Puts another element of chance into the hunt for sure.

Thanks Guy,

I have never had a mis fire either while hunting. Had a few on the range in my younger years though.
The problem we are having is temps in the 50's. The deer just don't move. We could have snow tomorrow night and that might get them moving.
Muzzle loader season is in Dec and its usually cold and snow. The colder it is the better it gets.
I am confident my daughter will get a second chance. I am thinking of a 870 20 ga youth slug gun for next year.

Same here! They get settled into the sleep-eat-sleep routine, and if you're on a path between the two it's pretty good odds she'll get her shot.

Good luck to you both!
