The Government Just Won't Give Up!

Too inhumane to the bears.
Yes, it would seem to be animal cruelty to introduce bears into a city that is supposed to be handgun free (IIRC) and yet is one of America's cities with the highest rate of murder and gun related crimes!

It has been stated that many areas are seeing these animals expand back into areas that they once inhabited but have extirpated from as they overpopulate the nearby regions where they still exist.
With the growing population in BC, I would think that there are bears moving south of the border into Washington, since they do not seem to recognize international borders. And the bears do not seem to be hindered by Georgia Strait separating BC's mainland from Vancouver Island as they are now found on the Island where they supposedly did not inhabit before. So I would also imagine that bears are moving from Montana and Idaho into Washington too?

Wait, undocumented bears? What's this world coming to?

I don't think they will do as well as the wolves are doing. I live east of the Cascades and even tho some bears wander in here they wander right back. When they removed the whole wedge wolf pack just south of the border near the Kettle River, the WDFW had trail cams record 6 grizzly wander into the area, but they all left soon too. To the east of here there are a few bears in the Idaho Selkirks and the Washington Salmo, but again they don't seam to spend much time further west.

There was one near Northport near the border crossing that raided some chicken coops and was relocated. He made it back in short order to get into chickens near Chewelah.

The salmon runs are long gone, the white bark pine don't live here, the deer population is way down, the moose are in decline, wolf and cougar populations very strong. The north cascades are even higher elevation with a shorter growing season for everything. I just don't see many grizzly being able to make a go of it in the current habitat. If they can figure a way for salmon fry to make it down stream around the dam turbines, that might change.

Lots of orchards just south and east of the park. Do bears like apples, pears and stone fruit?
