The Hawken gets it done

I missed this post when it was new but still want to congratulate you on getting it done. I own three muzzleloaders, 2 in-line and one percussion, but have yet to harvest my first deer with one. The in-lines are both equipped with scopes but I prefer to carry my Lyman sidelock percussion. The nipple has been replaced to fire musket caps which gives a more reliable ignition with the synthetic powders. If I'm going to own them I need to commit the time but our muzzleloader season starts the day after our nine day deer gun season in Wisconsin and usually I am ready for a break.

Don't know about where you live and hunt but in WV we can use a muzzle loader in the regular firearms seasons. So that is another opportunity to hunt with smoke poles.
Dan.

Wow, that's a sucky time for ML. After the Orange Army has stomped around the woods for a week or two, the deer are skittish and often nocturnal. Here in KY, there's about a 3-week break between the end of rifle season and the beginning of ML. Allows things to settle down a bit.
