The one that got away?

There are only two that hurt, and I wish I could get them back.. The really painful ones were neither unique, special, or even valuable, but the circumstances meant everything.

1) Sears .22 LR 5 shot, magazine fed, bolt action - My first firearm, a gift from my folks at xmas. I learned to shoot with that rifle and accounted for I don't know how many gophers. When I later got another .22LR for XMAS, a 572 BDL deluxe, I sold off my bolt gun to a friend. (He still uses it, shoots it, and loves it, so at least I know it's well cared for.)

2) Remington 870 express - sold to pay for textbooks in college. I took a lot of game birds with this one and it sucked having no other choice... such was life.

The first rifle I purchased myself was a Model 700 ADL in 30-06. It shot great and I sold it. I really miss my 280 Remington, but I keep thinking some day it's going to be replaced if I build that 03-A3 action, find a Winchester Model 70, or a Ruger #1B in 280 Remington.  :|

You have to quit talking 'bout that .280, David, and cast a net to pick one up.

Yeah, what the Doctor said

I see you guys are at it again! Not that I don't deserve it though.....

I can't speak for others, David, but this is the first time for me (to mention this particular rifle).

I regret selling my Remington sps-v 204 Ruger that would shoot insane small groups. And the one I miss the most is a winchester 9422 trapper. Awesome little rifle. Might have to find another soon!

An old model Ruger Super Blackhawk, one of the early ones with the Mahoghany case, serial number was 3800. I thought I had a line on another one, with a lower number. Anyway, the deal busted up and I had sold my other one already. I saw 7 for sale not too long ago, but at nearly $10k, it was out of my range. :(

Actually, I do not miss that Luger much except as a collector piece. I sold it to a collector. I am a shooter and that Luger would not funtion propely with the crummy Remington low powered ammo that was available in the 1970's. The slide locked back and stovepiped every round.

I also had a Nazi swastika marked commercial Browning High Power and a PPK commercial with Nazi Swastika markings. Both of those were well crafted, nicely shooting pieces that suited me better. I still have an Nazi NCO Dress Dagger, stag handled, 10 inches long with sheath. Knife is perfect, sheath is worn.

The one that got away for me was a .257 Roberts, Super Grade, Winchester Model 70 made in 1953 that did not have mark on it. It had beautiful red walnut with some figure and contrasting grain. The metal work was perfect and I almost felt like a criminal putting a close to period Redfield scope on it. It also shot very well with 100 gr Partitons. I actually hunted deer with it for still hunting and the Partiton billet at 3050 fps still kills well with well placed shots when I did my part. The new Browning High power .257 Roberts is also a classic and when I get done with it will look the part.

I had a Weatherby Mark V in 30-06, a Sako in 308 and a Rem 700 CDL in 7m-08 that should have never been put on the trade blanket.

Long

A Remington Model 7 SS in 308. First rifle my parents had bought me to hunt with, and IDK why I decided to sell it. That and a Mossberg 835 combo I saved every penny for....

My first bolt action rifle, Winchester Blackshadow I believe in .270. Nothing special but was a good rifle, could have given to my son by now.

Ah, yes, hindsight. It catches all of us eventually.
