New scope on THE rifle..A Conquest 3,5-10x44. Much more well balanced than my former 6,5-20x50 with open target turrets.

Heading for the range tomorrow to try ABLR for the upcomming trip to Africa..

With a little zoom action the barrel does say 270 BEE and the Winchester sure looks nice all dressed up

270 Bee right?

B it is

Unconditionally my best all-round huntingrifle. I have nicknamed it "THE" rifle. It come above everything else in the gunsafe.

That's a pre war M70 action was it a factory chamber or did you have a Winchester barrel chambered for the Bee?

That is a real beauty. I would bet the rifle would handle with the new scope much better, a 6.5-20x50 would be real heavy.

The rifle is a transitional rifle from 1947. I had a new Lilja barrel installed as the old .270Win barrel was beated up. Lilja can duplicate the original factory contour. Barrel is 27" slim & trim.

Man that thing is gorgeous!! That would be a pretty nice scope for my .280AI build which is a Winchester also!!! Dang that gets me excited.

RM, I also have a 3.5-10x44 Zeiss Conquest that I bought last year when they were discontinued. Mine has the #4 reticle which I like and is super clear.

The moment of truth.

As mentioned the rifle got a new scope.

I had "drysighted" the scope by center the barrel to the crosshair on a fixed point in order not to use too many shots just to get-on-paper.
Here is two shots fired ofhand a 50m just as a checker to see if I was near anything.

They print right above the Black dot

Moving out to 200meters I used an addtionally two shots just to check if I was still on target.
This load here my standard load of 150grain Nosler Par 73grain Rhino22(Norma MRP)

The sighters are seen above the dot the other two shots fired from bench is 4´clock

Okay. I dialed the scope up + a little to left in order not to print(shoot) on my former shots.
Here the load is 72grain Rhino 22(Norma MRP) and NOSLER ABLR 150grain

I dialed down and fired 3 shots with 180grain Woodleigh backed by 69grain Rhino22(Norma MRP).

73grain Rhino22(Norma MRP) and my third shot misfired due to faulty primer(FED215). So only
twoshotgroup. One in the Black, one outside(right).

I didn´t wanted to make up too many rounds I would end up with disassemble, but rather try to reload a few shots that will indicate something. I load this rifle to max performance so firing too many rounds I know will never work would just ruin the barrel.

I conclude from the session here 72grain Rhino22 is a good place to start. Now I will play with the OAL using same charge. Next time I will chronograph too.

I know from former chronographs read-outs the 180woodleigh does +3000ft/sec and the 150grain NoslerPAR does about 3280ft/sec.

I love the Zeiss 6.5-20X on my .222. Old eyes can really see those bench rest targets now! Every scope has a place I suppose. Of course, any scope looks just great on a Model 70 and yours is a superb example. :)

That is great looking rifle with a very nice piece of glass on top. You will get her dialed in and then that Beeee will be ready to reach out & touch something..

Blessings,
Dan

I had an L461 in the 1970's chambered for the .222Mag, fine looking and shooting rifles!
