Just came back from the range today with my buddy Frank. We're done fine tuning the final load for his custom 257 Weatherby. He want's to use the rifle for our upcoming pig hunt. Finding accurate load for the rifle was a breeze. Frank wants to use the 115 grain Barnes TSX as one bullet fits all types of hunting. I initially use the excellent IMR 4831 with good result but found out that Reloader 25 has better consistency.

Here's the result of our shooting session today.

First 3 shot group at 110 yards:

2nd 3 shot group...

Franks rifle... built on a Yugo Mauser 98 with 26 inch Hart barrel.

DF,

Nicely done! That rifle shoots as good as she looks.
That load has all the bases covered for sure.

Thanks Guys. Frank and I didn't have to shoot much. Both his 300 and 257 shoots really well. I myself took my 6.5 - 284 to verify my zero since I had to readjust the eye relief.

4 shot group from the 300 Weatherby. Load consist of 180 grain Barnes TTSX and Reloader 25. The errant shot was from a different batch of load that Frank accidentally got in the mix. Ruined an otherwise great group.

4 shot group from my 6.5 - 284. The 3 shot cluster was fired together and the fourth after the scope was zeroed. The load consist of 140 grain Berger VLD Hunting and IMR 4831.

No need to waste anymore bullet so we called it a day.

Either of those loads is dialed in quite nicely. There is some great shooting there.

I'm more impressed with my friend Frank shooting prowess though. He hardly shoot. He doesn't spend as much time in the range as I do, but the guy can shoot. Not everyone can just pick-up a rifle and throw a couple of excellent group like that. The guy is unbelievable!

All three rifles wear the excellent Vortex Viper scope. The reticle intersect on these scopes however is so thick that, it eclipsed the 3/4 inch dot target that we pasted at 110 yards... great hunting scope for an aging eye, but lousy as a target scope. Tracking however is excellent! For those who is in the market for scopes of great value have to look no further. Check the Vortex offering... you're not gonna be disappointed.

DF,

I've shot several of the Vortex scopes. I would consider one on almost any of my rifles. They are exceptionally clear. I consider them as delivering great value.

It is indeed wonderful when muscle control, breathing and focus all come together as in your friend's case. There are not many like that. Most people have to work at learning to shoot and then continuing to maintain muscle tone.

DF, those are some great shooting loads and that 257WM is very awesome. Nice shooting. Scotty
