What a shame they have got that darn tang safety on these ................ ever since Browning changed the design years back; people were sending these over to Turnbulls and they were actually removing the second saftey; and tig welding the slot up and modifying the hammers to convert them back and usually case coloring them ........... it was about a grand from memory.............
Others just modified the hammers and put a tang sight on them! Either way it so silly to add another saftey to something that had been around for over a hundred years and worked fine without it . Anyone that owned a Winchester that had a chiped hammer saftey notch, darn well should have known it? As all you have to do so pull on the trigger hard and it will jump out of the notch??? Why you would need to reengineer the saftey is a total mystery to me. Just take the hammer out and Fix It ??? We have been tig welding them up and then recutting the saftey notches in them for over 30 years, and of course if the saftey notch is correct you could pull on the trigger until you bent it and the gun would not go off..................... so maybe they should have added a third saftey as well in case the second one fails?????

I already have a push feeding Whelen.. I think I am going to throttle back some and wait and see what is coming. My Whelen shoots excellent right now and with a scope reworking, I will be good. Not chasing anything dangerous with it and it hasn't given me any heartaches, ever..
