This is how to take record-book grizzly!

Its all about where you shoot them.
That is a huge bear!

Under those circumstances I would have been shacking so badly that I would have missed that bear entirely. Thus, becoming record-book scat!! LOL

Lol, and folks are worried about an 06 and 220gr bullets...........piece of cake

The story makes the round here in BC of "the 13th bear." A native took 12 grizzlies with a single-shot 22, shooting each bear in the ear. The 13th bear killed him. The 22 will penetrate the fontanelle regions of the skull. A small deviation invites an angry bear with a headache taking out his irritation on the individual who brought on the headache.

That sums it up nicely Earle, you don't need a cannon to kill a bear :)

Cool story and I'm glad it worked out for her but as DrMike said I wouldn't want to push my luck with a 22 lr.

Any link to the story Mike?

Gerry, I agree---- Pass the 30-06...

No link. This is scuttlebutt, but I've heard the story on multiple occasions. Most frequently, I've heard this story from natives in this area.

I remember a story about an eskimo fellow who was somehow trapped or cornered by a polar bear and all he had was a .22 LR and he shot the bear in the head killing it as it tried to get at him. Has anyone else heard about that one?

.22 LR better than a stick!

Sounds to me like those would be some pretty tense moments. I wouldn't ever want to be in that predicament and only have a single shot 22........Nope

I would be willing to bet, one shot with a 22 SAV High-power, "the imp" would whilt any bear that walks NA, as long as it was placed right in his ear! Lol

It is the appended caveat that gives me pause, Earle. I hate like everything to think of being eaten by a bear with a pierced ear.

Lol, well I never thought of it that way Doc, lol certainly something to ponder about! Lol

I was asked to respond and to put it bluntly, it is stupid, stupid, stupid to hunt any bear--- black, brown or white with a .22. Has it been done, yes. But how many bears were wounded that the same idiots that shot them with a 22 said nothing about it. And the idiots I speak of are my own people, the native indians. Their excuse and or rational is that the guns and ammo are cheaper.

I have heard the same story Dr Mike and always say the truth is they wounded 12 before killing the 13th.

As we have discussed before here. I agree with Dr Mike, Gerry, Earle and probably others that the 30-06 with a 180 grain bullet is all anyone needs to hunt any animal in North America. Again, agreeing with Dr Mike, when the circumstances change the need for weaponry changes. Flushing out a wounded Grizzly in thick alders would bring out the 45/70 or even the 458 lott or if your lucky enough to own one the 348 ( could not resist mentioning that last caliber )

Can hardly believe you struggled to resist speaking of the 348, Cheyenne. Close up with a grizzly, I do want something that delivers the most energy possible, coupled to a bullet that maintains integrity when pushed to the limits.
