I wasn't even going to hunt for bear this season.

But... I've seen two bears already this spring and summer... While just casually prowling in the hills.

Since John and I have bear tags... I'm thinking it's about time to go for another bear skin! And maybe some bear brats & pepperoni! Breakfast sausage? Bear roast for this winter?

Ya never know.. Time to haul out the Number One and the 1917 I'd say!

Maybe another Washington spot & stalk bear or two... If nothing else, it's worth a try, and a great father-son hunt!

Guy

Brats forever! I could even live without the rug--just the brats.

Thanks. That rifle and I sort of found each other. It's got some interesting history.

Good choice Guy, and good luck to you and your son :)

I just spoke with the outfitter up here, and the Bears are just tearing up the bait  ...no strawberrys, or blueberrys , they're very late this year, should be an excellent hunt he said

Guy, I'll be in my stand with the .375 H&H on Sept 1st  ..Gonna also take along my Beretta 12 gauge with 00 Buck shot for when I'm checking the bait in the morning, I shot one like this before, and I tell ya, he was dead before he hit the ground :)

Lou

Guy, here's one of my proven secret weapons, I shipped a box of this to Norm, it gets bears in on your bait in a real hurry!..Mix with some water and pour into a spray bottle, and spray in and around the bait site
Lou

Guy, that 375 H&H is just what the good doctor ordered for your upcoming bear hunt.
I am sure looking forward to the story & photos!!

Blessings,
Dan

   You got the bear itch bad, don't ya!!!??? Something to Look forward too! CL

Lou - we can't bait or use dogs. I understand (and could be wrong) that Anise is illegal for us here in Washington as well.

So, we do "spot & stalk" bear hunting. It works, and I like it!

Guy, what is Johns bear load gonna be? What would an 06 not do with a 200 gr. PT. And don,t get caught in them durn fires over your way.

John keeps killing bucks and bears with various types of 165 gr Noslers. Uses the Partition on bears. H4350 is the powder of choice. Haven't really changed the load in a long time. It's accurate and reliable.

We have shot 180's, 200's and 220's from that old rifle, but he likes the 165's. Fine with me!

guy if you use the anise as a cover scent and bears can not consume the mist, then how is it considered baiting? not trying start anything just wondering.

Honestly, I don't know.

Was told it can't be used. But... That could be bum info.

Spot and stalk has worked out just fine for us... FUN hunts!

Guy

Here in BC, one has to be careful with cover scents. To some degree, the call for when a cover scent lapses into an attractant is dependent on the CO's discretion. Rather than run the risk of creating a problem, it is safer to practise spot and stalk. There is always a high hill or mountain side from which to glass.

Guy and John,
Good luck and have fun. I wish you both the best this upcoming bear season.
