Tikka 260 Remington

Not sure if I shared this one with you yet. Haven't gone shooting since probably October so this wasn't too bad with how things turned out. The 140 G.S. load is the one I used to load in the late 1990's and into the 2000's and was pleased to see this new rifle seems to like it.

My hunting partner tried some new loads with IMR 3031 with both the 150 and 165 gr Ballistic Tip in his 308 Win and they did really well too.

Overall we both were happy today with how things turned out.

That's how we do it, prone with a bipod! We were a bit rusty but it went well.
It is sad they discontinued the Enduron powders but I still have some 4451 and 7977 to last a while. I read that Hodgdon is trying to get them to make the powders for them again so hopefully they can come up with a deal. They are pretty popular powders.

I have a Sako 85 and load 143gr ELDX with superformance, I going to try and work up something lighter now that I have a 264wm, also a Ruger M77 i put in a compact stock and cut the barrel to 17" for my daughter.

I have a Tikka 695 in 25-06 was the first new rifle I ever bought, was my baby for a very long time.

My Tikka is an 8 twist 22-250. My coyote load is a 63g Absolute Hammer and target load is a 70g Nosler RDF, both shoot under 1/2" at 100 and have the same poi.

I've never owned a Tikka but I've always heard nothing but positive feedback on those rifles. A good friend of mine has two sons who both shoot Tikkas and both their rifles are extremely accurate.

I like your style, two 260's a 264 WM and a 25-06. Three great deer rounds there. I have never looked at Superformance before but checking Hodgdon's data it is quite impressive.

Those 8 twist 22-250's are quite sought after from what I have read. Using good bullets there wouldn't be a bit if difference between the 260 and it for deer.

in full loads yes , I'm using the RL powders .

my opinion on the 260 is , it could be the only centerfire rifle a guy needs . it shoots reduced loads , right up through full loads . it's just a very good choice .

my Grandson soon to be 10 years old , is big enough to handle the rifle , with a cut down youth stock . I've been loading him H4895 reduced loads , with 107 grain tipped match king bullets . it shoots these very well too . this rifle has just been a treat to work with . everything I've tried in it shoot good enough to very good . I never had much of an opinion on a 260 until I got one . if you have a new shooter and want reduced load info , let me know . I should be able to get you started in the right direction .








I've been adding a little powder to the reduced loads . one day we were out I thought , I wonder if that thing is still shooting ok , and sighted in ok since I've added powder to his ammo . it's a little high , but shooting good . I finally found a couple more boxes of these sierra bullets .

The 260 is a fine rifle for anyone. When my grandson was fourteen, I bought him a Tikka chambered in 260. He's a man now and makes noises that it isn't enough rifle. However, his grandpa calmly insists that this rifle will get the job done if he'll do his part. Certainly, it is a fine cartridge for the younger shooter. Nevertheless, the accomplished rifleman will not be undergunned with this cartridge.

It has treated myself and my daughter well, and I would like to add 1 or 2 more to the safe, first one as a heavier barrel varmit/target type and possibly an AR10

You're right I wouldn't hesitate to hunt game up to moose with the 260 Rem and similar sized cartridges. The only exception I have to that is hunting in grizzly country, they have become more aggressive here in the last 5 years since hunting them has been closed so I would prefer to carry something bigger in the high density grizzly areas we have here.

When my wife started to hunt I found a nice 6.5x55 for her. Started off with Trail Boss and some cheap 140's and then graduated up to a starting load of H 4895 and the 120 gr Ballistic Tip. In no time we were up to full power loads using H 4350. Trail Boss and H 4895 are invaluable when it comes to introducing new shooters to hunting.

Those 107 gr Tipped Match King bullets probably would do fine on deer even, over on the Rokslide forum people rave about the 130 gr version of the same bullet. I would bet the 129 gr ABLR at moderate speeds would be fantastic on deer too. Awesome to see your grandson shooting your 260, looks like he is doing really well!

And it's not a 6.5 CM! I've worked on a couple of those for 2 different people and it is a very good round and I'm not knocking anybody that owns one, but the thought of me buying a CM makes my teeth clench and my head shake in protest......kinda like the thought of drinking curdled milk. Just me, I don't expect anybody else to have to agree.

I don't own a 6.5 caliber rifle of any kind, but I often thought that out of them a 260 Remington would be my choice. It's hard to go wrong starting out with something based on the 308 Win case, and you end up with a good cartridge that is somewhat unique in light of the CM mass following.

Hard to beat the Tikka, I can use the M+ magazine and run them further out. This is a factory barrel and bullets seated to the lands or mag length depending on which one. The Speer and PRVI are at 2.950" OAL.
