I have been bugging PTG nearly daily about my reamers because it has been almost twice as long as I was originally quoted. Well they sent my reamer overnight today so I'd have it for tomorrow. The down side is I also ordered a 7mm neck and throating reamer as well and they can't find the order. My main goal was to build a packable weight deer hunting rifle and I was trying to focus on the 7-300wm more than the 6.5 version. Since I'm reamer less for a 7mm the 6.5 will get the nod for the time being. So it's not exactly light but the barrel will be a 6.5mm Bartlein 8" twist spiral fluted Sendero contour. I cut it to 28", crowned it and installed the muzzle brake today. Hopefully the reamer will actually show tomorrow so I can be cutting some metal and be shooting a new gun this weekend. I have to finalize my loads with a new lot of powder and work out my drops for my .338 Edge anyway so hopefully it will be a busy yet productive weekend.

Sounds cool! One of these days I'm going to have a 6.5 WSM built... likely just a standard Winchester Sporter contour on the barrel, 25-26" long. I'm too old to be packing anything heavier.

It still sounds like a great build. However, how did they manage to lose your order? Their customer care doesn't sound especially effective.

It is pretty poor Mike. As several on this site alone will attest. When I ordered them they told me 4-5 weeks. I called around 4 weeks and it turned into 4-6 weeks. When I called again it was 6-8 weeks and then it became 8-10 weeks. So I stayed on them until they produced. They have grown too much to keep up.

That sounds like a cool build! Good luck Nathan.

Idaho, do you do all your own work?

I do. I've done my own work for about 20 years now.

That's awesome! Do you do that for a living or just for yourself?

Just for myself. I will probably get a FFL just to have one though. It would be nice to not have to pay someone to receive a gun for you.

NICE! Can't wait to see this screamer! I'll have the 264 out on the range this weekend. Be fun to warm it up a little.

Sounds llike a cool round!
Kinda of like a 264 WM w/ a turbo.

What bullet(s) are you planning on using and what kind of speeds do you anticipate?

Jim,

I'll probably shoot 140 Amax's or 142 SMK's. I think I should get 33-3400fps out of them.

The barrel is dialed in. I know it's taken a bit of time but I had other things to do as well. So I'll be whittling soon.

Nathen,

Sounds awesome buddy.
Can't wait to see the big 6.5 in action.

It's a SS Rem. 700 action and it will probably go in a HS stock for now. If it's a shooter I'll probably drop it in a light weight High Tech stock to make a lighter weight packable gun. It still a fairly heavy contour but the fluting helps.

Well I shot the rifle this morning and was a little disappointed with the speed before pressure but it looks like it will be accurate. About the fastest it will go is in the mid 3200's with 140's before you start getting ejector marks and tough extraction. I loaded some ladder loads and didn't get nearly as far into them as I had hoped before pressure signs. Loaded 70-76grs of H-1000 and had pressure at 71grs. I loaded 72-77grs of Retumbo and had pressure at 73grs. Velocity for the 70grs of H-1000 was 3258 and 3276 with 72grs of Retumbo.

Nathan, try out RL25 man. I get a cool 3200 with the 140 BT's and AB's. No issues with extractor marks or hardness on the cases. It really works well. I would bet it would do the same for you buddy. I am on the 6-7th firing and the only thing I do is anneal every third reload. Pockets stay very tight and accuracy is excellent.
