Time for the 300 to be blooded

One hour after being dropped off? Man, that is great. Though the hunt is over, the monkey is off your back. You did well, indeed.

I still have one more buck tag to fill and 4 does if I wanted to, so plenty of hunting left.

Nice, good luck DF! Hope you get em all! It is pretty cool to hear about the 300 getting some field time! Scotty

Congrats DF! Gotta love any WBY shooting a barnes at extreme speeds!! Can't wait to see more pics.

Thanks Guys. This morning hunt started pretty bad for us. We hit a doe at 50MPH and shattered the front end of my friend Z71GMC. The bumper took the brunt of the impact and luckily no damaged to the radiator, A/C condenser and transmission cooler. We patched the bumper and the light together and continued on. Frank shot a small buck with his black widow and another buddy shot a doe. The wind came this afternoon so we call it a day. We will be heading to Dallas area in the morning and plan on hunting Oklahoma by the weekend.

The 'Bee doesn't make as much of a mess as does the GMC. Good that no one was injured (except for the doe).

Sure did DrMike. We did not see it coming. It happened so fast. The deer darted out of nowhere and run right to us. Scare the hell out of everyone. To top it off, Frank and I went to dropped our deer to the meat locker and proceeded to the only bank in town to withdraw cash from an ATM. Frank forgot his PIN number so he called his wife to get it. It took awhile for his wife to respond so we were just there, at the parking lot minding our own business, munching on hot Tamales when an old gentleman approach us and asked me to roll down my window. He introduced himself as sherif Joe. He asked me what we were doing. I told him that we're going to get cash at the ATM but my buddy forgot his PIN number so we're waiting for his wife's call. The sherif, in his Texas drawl told us that we were making the folks at the bank very nervous. I thought it was hilarious. Wellington Texas has a population of 2100. They're mostly white. I haven't seen an Asian nor a Hispanic person while we're there. So me and Frank, in a beat-up GMC with a California plate, stand up like a sore thumb LOL. Anyway, sherif Joe asked for our drivers license and run it though just to make sure we're harmless and apologize for inconveniencing us.

That's the reason why I only use Barnes on the Bee to minimized meat damage. The bullet just penciled through with only quarter size exit wound. The drawback however is the animal doesn't bleed much. It took me an hour to find this deer since there's no blood trail to follow. I found blood on the spot where the deer was standing when I took the shot and that's about it. The deer went into some thick brush.

Here's a picture of the the only positive sign of a hit.

I found the deer just in time before it got really dark. He travelled less than 50 yards.

DF have you ever thought about trying a AB or PT in your 300? When I ran 200's out of my 300WM they were very accurate and man, they did open up a little more. Not excessive but enough to get a little more blood on the deck. Just wondering, I know you'd get them to shoot outta your rifles! They seem like they would shoot most anything well. Scotty

I was just talking to Frank about that. I'll be looking at AccuBond for both his 280 Ackley and my 300 for next year.

That is a problem with Barnes. When they work, they work very well. They are sensitive to the business of opening, however. Though I have not used them for my own hunting, I have numerous reports that the TTSX does promote opening at lower velocities and in instances where no bone was hit.

Rommel, I can believe questions could be raised. Sometime, I'll have to tell you about my trip through a small southern town. It was midnight; I had NY license plates and an Afro. I'll tell you the story some day.

Man, talk about the hair standing up on the back of my neck!! Mike with AFRO is about the scariest thing I have heard in awhile! Man---

DF, looking forward to hearing about your work with the AB's. I have no doubt your awesome rifles will shoot them into amazing groups, and I imagine you will have thicker blood trails.. Nosler's AB's PT's leave some of the prettiest blood trails I have ever had the pleasure to follow! Scotty

Man, no kidding!

Young and wild. Didn't do much shooting in those days. I was fresh out of the Marines and attending medical school in NYC. I tried to fit in, but it didn't work. Thus, I transferred to Texas to complete my studies. I was moving to Texas to work on the ship channel as a pipe fitter. The pay was good and I needed money for my young family. Ah, those were the days. I wouldn't have missed them for anything, but I'm surely glad they are past.
