I'm just getting into reloading for my 300 Win Mag(Rem 700 bdl 26" fluted barrel)
I've read allot here. It seems some guns don't like the AccuBond and I hope I don't have one of those.
I want to start with the AccuBond.
I tried some of the Doubletap loaded 180 gr Accubonds(3050fps) and they would not group at all in my gun. My 300 really likes the slower Federal ammo at 2960 fps or so they state.
I do not have a chrono yet.

I have Winchester brass and Federal 215 primers to go with the 180 gr AB's but no powder yet. Finding powder is as hard as winning the lottery it seems.

I was wanting to start with RL22 and H4831sc as it seems like these two powders are said to shoot well by the people who like the AccuBond.
For those who reload what is the C.O.A.L of your favorite loads? Did you find the AccuBond shoots better when loaded closer to the lands?

I'm looking for some tips from those who have found their pet loads and info on how they got there if the AccuBond did not shoot well initially.
Thanks

Welcome aboard, excaliber. Always pleased to see another shooter/hand loader posting.

AccuBonds can deliver excellent accuracy. One piece of advice is to allow for a generous jump to the lands. I have found on most of my loads built around AccuBonds that a jump of ~0.100 inch gives me great accuracy. I don't recall any that had less than a 0.070 inch jump to the lands. Twenty-nine hundred and change fps is ample to topple about any game you'll encounter in NA and in much of the remainder of the world. You have suggested a couple of fine powders and F215 primers will deliver the goods for you. Looks to me that you are well on your way to building a fine load.

75.0 grains of RL22 does great on my rifle w/180 grn AB.

70.5 grains of H4831sc is awesome for my 200 grain Partitions.

You might also try IMR7828 (IMR7828ssc is the same thing, just "super short cut"). I've been seeing lots of that in circulation lately.

My 300 winnie has a short mag (ruger M77). So I'm no where near the lands.

My buddy uses 180 AB and Nosler's max load of H1000 0.020" off the rifling. It shoots really well from his 700

Seems like your in a great spot. I ran a lot of RL22 in my old 300 Win Mag. I wouldn't overlook H4350. I kno this old fella that seems to topple elk every year with a good load of H4350 and a 180 PT. RL25, H1000, IMR7828, and a good many other powders should get you into the zone pretty quick.

I'll also echo Mikes advice. I've not had great luck with ABs being close to the rifling. Somewhere in the .040 to .110" has been what I've seen.

Thanks for the info guys. I really appreciate it. Now I just need to find some powder. It's been almost two years and I've not seen any H4831sc around here. I did hear about some RL22 but I missed it.
I'll keep looking.

Don't be too worried, RL19, RL17, IMR4350, IMR4831, and a bunch of others will work real well.

What do you have available? Can you order it?

You can bite the bullet and buy on-line from Cabelas. They have IMR 7828ssc available right now. You'd have to pay the haz mat fee, so I'd get at least two #'s.

On-line isn't too bad of a route. Not sure it works north of the boarder for shipping though, not sure where you're at (do they even have internet in Canada? )

Or look around. Something will show up on the shelves somewhere.

75.0 grs RL22 and seat the 180 gr AB to just shy of the
magazine box length. You should be good to go.

Most of the powders mentioned here will work well for the 300 WM. Because of the short magazine on most 300's your limited in flexibility. Start with them loaded as long as possible, so they will still function in your rifle. Then you can back off as necessary. I did that in 1970 and have never changed the AOL. Good luck, the AB's can be tough to load.

Smoke signals and homing pigeon. Those dove hunters south of the border keep shooting my pigeon, however. Can't tell the difference between a dove and a pigeon, I guess.

I finally found a couple pounds of RL22 here locally. At least I have somewhere to start now.
