To AI or not

Well there are some good arguments on both sides. I guess I have some thinking to do. Thanks to everyone for saying something.

I really like the concept. Here's my first two and I'm about to embark on the third.

The Ackleyrized 338 Lapua and the 223 Remington

Someday, that is my goal to have either the 30/06 or 280AI. They just look too good not own one. Scotty

I just need to find a nice donor for that kind of project. Scotty

If you can find Mauser Action, that would be the ticket. Here's my 280 built around an Argentine Mauser Model 1909.

Very nice rifle. That looks like a classic Western hunting rifle should! Scotty

DF, what do you think of using a Remington M798 for an AI conversion. I saw one tonight as Bass Pro for 479.00 with a cheap scope, brand new. They have pretty decent stocks on them, and seem like they would be a good candidate for an AI job. Can't beat 479.00 for a brand new rifle. Plus, it is a Mauser 98, so it should be good for about anything. Scotty

Nothing wrong with that. I heard about it when Remington first announced it. I believe the action is pure Mauser. That means there's a lot of aftermarket component out there to enhance rifle performance. On the other hand that's a lot to pay for a donor gun. I paid 150 dollars for my Mauser. Spend some of that money on premium barrel... you will need it. Another excellent donor action is the Remington 700. I've seen them selling for $350. You can built an accurate rifle on Model 700 for about a 1K. If you are handy, you can save money by doing the stock yourself. It's not that hard. I did it on several of my rifle.
