I've got a late season archery hunt in november wanted opinions on if buck lures worked on blacktails and what brands to get thanks in advance, rick

Lures, bleats, grunts and rattling all work. Just don't expect it to work like it does on TV for whitetails. Whitetails are tenacious during the rut and will travel further and search harder than any other deer.

Scents and bleats work better on Blacktails, but don't leave out rattling. I just don't do it so agressively or with lare antlers. I have had big bucks leave the trail of a hot doe to check out a bleat call. They do grunt, but don't react to a grunt call all that well. It will spook most of the bucks you encounter.

Just like the elk that live in Blacktail country, if you over call, plan on disappointment.

You will kill more deer by simply being as sent free, noise free and movement free, as you can be and place you stand in good funnel points between bedding and feeding areas. And by staying in the stand.

two good pieces of advice. Scout, be quiet, don't stink, plan on shooting across canyon, site in for 300 yds and know your gun very well... Overcalling will force everything out of the county...

Most of my friends have already tagged out.
hardpan

not an issue hardpan 8) i promise I wont shoot accross a canyon with my recurve unless its a small canyon

We have had great success rattling for blacktails here in Western Oregon. I'd definitely try this method down your way as well.

I'm still waiting for Nosler to come out with the 100gr, 3 blade, white tip "AccuBlade"
Then for Leupold to start making bow sights..... we'd have it made.

What late season tag do you have?? If you are going to use any scents I would use the harmon blacktail deer lures. Also if you have a buck spotted rattling can be very effective. Good luck.

Cahunter, I drew A30 covalo hunt. What about the harmon blacktail lures, where can I find out more about it?

Great hunt to draw! I think you should have no problem locating deer on that hunt. Just search google for the harmon scents if you are going to try them. I would think you could set up with some doe in heat on a trail and with some rattling have no problem. Good luck on the hunt... Be sure to let us know how it goes.

Try driping a trail of "Doe in Heat" (Blacktail) at least 50 yards long (along old/unused access roads, well used large game trails, etcet). Don't forget to drip it on brush/leaves 2 1/2 feet high, as well as on the ground. Start in the woods, end it about 5-10 yards into a clear cut. Make a mock scrape where this trail ends, using a dominant Buck scent. Do all this BEFORE it gets light. Keep the wind in mind when you set up your ambush point near the mock scrape. Don't grunt or rattle and be ready to act quickly.
Good luck and have fun.
