I’m going to start the process tomorrow to get my cataracts resolved hopefully. My question, is there a distance of clarity that you tell your Optometrist you are looking for to shoot shotgun clays and upland birds, along with scoped rifle shooting. I’ve heard that long range acuity is what you want and then live with glasses up close. Which glasses up close I’m ok with. Has anyone got any first hand advice that may help? Thanks in advance.

Good luck on your surgery. My dad had both eyes done earlier this year. He thinks he sees better , but at 80 being able to see good is a plus.

Best of luck Joe. My dad had both eyes done a couple of years ago and has made a ton of difference.

Yep, I had my shooting eye done 5 years ago. Went from not being able to resolve Irons to being able to use Iron sights again. I told the docs distance was all that mattered I wanted to hunt and shoot and didn’t care if I needed readers. Getting my other eye done later this summer. You will be amazed 72 hours later.

Great information to know and keep in mind for future use if needed! Thanks!
Never would have thought that there were options available!

I have them also but they keep telling me they're not ready. Almost begged them last year at my appointment. Friend described the lens selection as good, better and best. Not able to relate but according to him his insurance only paid so much, and he paid out of pocket the balance for the best. One outdoor writer said he told his surgeon he wanted to see the front sight of his rifle and a number 16 fly on the water. Maybe somewhere in all of our answers you can make a good choice. Let me know how it works out.

I had both eyes done in 2021. Dr. gave me the choice far or near vision or one of each. I went with far and wear readers. I talked to a guy whose son did the one of each and he said his son hated it, the eyes were constantly battling each other. I was able to get shooting glasses with the reader built in.

I had both eye done around 2011. Had them set for distance and sed reader for close in work. The surprising this is on the guided hunts I've done since. More often that not I've spotted game before the guide. Not only that but I can also see rifle and handgun sights much better. It was an all around win for me.

Dad had his done last year. Right eye in September, Left eye late October.

Said he wishes he had done it a year earlier.

Couple weeks ago we were driving around looking for turkeys, deer, bears, whatever. He was seeing stuff just as quickly as I was.

He did distance in both eyes, uses readers from Walgreens for stuff up close.
