Took the dog for a walk, thought I'd look for some sheds and see if there were any spring bears yet. No sheds but came across a few tracks, wrong type of bear. Sure was nice to get out

And got out before the storm
Great looking country.

Always figured an inch across the front pads was a foot nose to tail. That is 8” across the pads makes it an 8 foot bear more or less. Those claws are way out front as well. I’d say that was a dang good bear.

For sure, appears to have been a fair sized bruin. I remember the first grizzly track I encountered many years ago. I was armed with a spinning reel filled with three pound test and by my lonesome. Certainly a strange feeling when the fresh tracks went into the bushes about six feet off the waters edge. Fishing wasn't all that great anyway.

Thanks, I was curious about that (y) , and for sure big for being in Montana. There were a couple other sets, I do think one was a black bear, or maybe a young grizzy

Those critters will keep my ol' head on a swivel.
The pace of the hike really slowed down, a bit more stopping and looking, peek around a bend while talking to the dog, and didn't venture too close to the timber
