Fresh snow last night, thought I'd go hike up a favorite canyon, see how the mule deer are doing and maybe pop a coyote. Saw about 30 mule deer, looking healthy. No luck on the coyote, but it was a great walk up in the local hills.

My trail, through the unbroken snow:

Steep country. Apple orchard down in the bottom:

This one liked my varmint call. I was hoping for a coyote though...

They seem to like hanging around big rocky outcroppings:

Great way to spend part of my day, up in the local hills with "my" mule deer herd. You can tell, they're just terrified of me... Outside of hunting season, I almost never see anyone else up there, just me and the deer. Occasionally the bighorn sheep. Often I'll see golden eagles. Now and again a coyote. It makes for a good walk, not far from town.

You continue to make me jealous, Guy. Nice photos, nice area. Wow!

Good stuff, Guy. Thanks for posting.

I was fortunate enough to have a bald eagle fly right over my head today while walking my dog.

No pics though.

The mule deer look to be in good shape, Guy. Fresh snow is always inviting.

That is some beautiful country. A little "bigger" that the river bottoms of SD but reminds me of home. Thanks CL

Looks like it was a great day. Some fresh air, rough hills, new snow, rifle in your paws and some wildlife. Thanks for the pics Guy.

Excellent pics of the land & deer Guy.....looks like it was a great day for that walk. Cheers, ET
