Very nice, hopefully you will be able to connect with one of those. Can't wait for the story and pics :)

The one with the forked sword tine and the extra points on the left side is pretty cool.

You're planning to stick these with an arrow, aren't you, Scott? They will definitely get your blood pumping.

Great bulls!

Is that trench they're messing with natural or man made?

Or elk made?

Guy,
It is elk made. A guy I met drew that tag several years ago. His father made a salt/mineral lick years ago and he just keeps his trail cameras up there to watch for good bulls and bucks. He can't hunt it but he shares info with people that can.

Scott!

What little paradise do you know. Nice pictures. Gets the adrenalin pumping here in Colorado.

All this talk of Elk, I can't wait until Sept. and then it will be 10days of Elk and then another week in Oct for Moose. That doesn't include draw Elk with my son and also Muley. It is going to be a fun fall with lots of photos.
I can't wait until this coming fall.

Blessings,
Dan

I never thought about setting up a trail camera on one of the mineral licks I know of. Great idea. Is this on public land? And if it is, don't you worry about your camera disappearing?

Years ago I use to set up little trail timers which when the string was pulled, it stopped the clock. They all got stolen even though it was a pretty remote location.

I'm going to have to find some cheap (right!) trail cameras. I know of 2 natural mineral licks where I hunt. Maybe if I set them up way before season just to see what is around?

Anyway...good idea and you found some really nice elk!

Are those Roosevelt bulls? Look like it with the extra points and short beams. Nice bulls!

They're Rocky Mtn. elk located about 40 miles north of LaGrande OR.

Scott

Hard to tell when they are in velvet and not fully developed yet. My BIL hunts that area and shot a 340 bull (6x6) near LaGrande 2 years ago during bow season.
