Twist rate:

I have to ask, to be sure: Recommended twist rate for a particular bullet is 1 : 9,5 or faster. Is 1 : 9 faster than 1 : 9,5, or is it the other way around ???

Thanx ! Thinking about trying some new bullets in my 270. Never tried Barnes, and thought maybe.... That rules out the 150 grain, as I have a 1 : 10 twist rate. I usually use heavy-for-caliber bullets for Norwegian moose, size and weight as an American Elk. The longest shooting distances 100+ meters.

The twist ratio is 1 revolution in X inches.

Not necessarily, give them a try, the may work. A .5 difference isn't much.

Likely, the 150 grain bullet will work just fine in your 270 WSM. I'm with you on using heavy-for-calibre bullets in any cartridge, but the monolithic bullets work quite well with lighter bullets. Don't overlook the 130 grain E-Tip.

I agree with Richracer1 and DrMike, the 150 gr should shoot just fine in a 1:10 twist in your 270 WSM.

I called Barnes about the 150gr told me it more than likely won't stabilize in a 1/10 twist barrel. I had to ask them who makes a factory 1/9 twist barrel for the 270 caliber all he said was you need 1/9 twist for that bullet.

Both my 270's(Hart/Lilja barrel) and 270WSM (Lawton barrel)all have 1/10 twist barrels all three shoot the Barnes 140gr TSX great and the 150gr Partitions.

I had the 270WSM throated alittle longer and I don't have any 150 TSX but that bullet would be pretty long. With the short throats on most WSM bullet may be taking up alot of the case capacity. I just decided to skip the TSX 150gr.

Never too old to learn if I do another 270 caliber I'll get a 1/9 twist barrel Lilja makes a 1/8 twist.

Thanx for shearing your information.
I know 130 grain is the most used bullet weight in the US. We have a minimum bullet weight of 140 grains for big game hunting. (= 6,5X55 is the smallest cartridge used for big game hunting) Think I`ll try the 140 grain Barnes. It`s longer than conventional bullets, and with good SD and BC.
I`ve hunted with both Nosler, Woodleigh, Sako and Hornady earlier, all of them work just fine. But sometimes it`s nice to try something new.

Buy the way, has anybody measured the overall length of the Barnes 140g, compared to NP 160 g / other "normal" bullet ?????

Have you looked at Barnes' online load data???? I find it interesting that they recommend a 1:9.5" twist for the 150 TSX, but their test barrel shows a twist rate of 1:10".

I have a 270WSM and at one time had 160 PT loaded for it, I now only use the 140AB and 130ET(my CA bullet). If I were you, and set on using the 150 TSX, I would go ahead and try working up a load for that bullet. Worst case is, it won't group worth a darn.

You`re right. I`ll try the 150g. Either it wil wprk out fine, og I have to use another bullet/bullet weight.

Barnes 140gr TSX is 1.310" long(base to ogive .810") and the 150gr Partition is 1.255"(base to ogive .715"). I would think the 150gr be pretty close to inch and half long going to have alot of bullet in the case. One problem you have to watch is close mouth to the bullet ogive that's one reason I havd my 270WSM/300WSM throated alittle longer.

Doing my research on who makes 9 twist 270 rifles seems Husqvara made one with 1/9.5, Mannilicher-Schoenauer used 1/9 twist.

If you haven't shot Barnes TSX before they like between .030" to .070" off the lands most of mine are .040" to .050" off the lands. Best read the loading guidelines that come with those bullets.
