Thanks Guy and FOTIS, it is a good setup and ready to go for sure. The FX II 6x36mm LR Duplex drop dots match this load out to 500yds. This will be the gun for this year and I think it will do just fine and it can take the weather as you said Guy.

Thank JD and Doc, I kind of rushed it trying to get it done so I could go the the office. Felt I could have shot better but it lets me know for sure that I don't have to guess or worry about my load and can focus on my shot when in the field putting it where I want it to go.

This rifle has been a shooter no matter what I shoot in this rifle and it makes it easy for me to look good.

Those Sierra HPGK's are wicked. I have used the .30 cal 165gr. HPGK in my .308 Win. for deer in orchards where I was concerned with over penetration. That bullet is ideal for those hunts, and with a stout charge of Varget they shoot into one ragged hole at 200 yards. Not much for BC but they do what they were designed to do. I wouldn't trust them for elk however; not after having a poor penetration experience with the 180gr GameKing out of my .308, but for deer and antelope, they are a great bullet!

Thank you, the rifle is responsible for a lot of it. Their BC is not the greatest but my load is only 5.7" low at 300yds. I have had these pass throught deer in my 7mm and 30 cal rifles for 20 straight deer now and for hogs (smallest hog being 125 pounds and deer and hogs were broad side shots). The 180gr G/K is not as tough as the 165gr G/K HPBT they are constructed slightly different. The HPBT is Sierra's toughest bullet along with the 225gr 338 and 35 cal SBT.

That rifle does appear to be a shooter and has an operator that is doing their part!I never knew that the HPBT G/K was tougher than the 180 GameKing. Thanks for enlightening me. I've taken three deer with my .308 and the 165 HPBT G/K, the longest shot was 80ish yards and I've found all three bullets mangled on the off side. I've never chronographed the load I'm running but from my experience it is bang, flop with those HPBT's, and for me impact velocity has been high enough to shred the bullet enough to keep it from passing through. Thanks for sharing your experience with these bullets! It's interesting to compare notes on performance!

Have you used the G/K HPBT 160gr 7mm or 165gr 30 caliber or have you used a G/K but not the HPBT, if so you are using the weaker G/K.

I have used both the 180gr. Soft point boat tail game king and the 165 grain hollow point boat tail game king. The 165 hallow point game king is the one I've shot three deer with and not had one exit on broad side shots through the lungs. I've had the 180 go all the way through a cow elk at 412 yards with a shot right behind the shoulder. She was down and out within feet. I shot another cow with the 180 at a little over 300 yards and hit here square in the shoulder with two 180's and the bullets fragmented, requiring a third shot behind the shoulder to put her down. I've since switch to 168 grain Barnes TSX and have never had anything move from the first shot with those. I still use the HPBT G/K for deer every now and then, but for elk, I'd be using a TSX out of that rifle.

Used the Sierra's for thirty years now and many deer and hogs and coyote and had exits with the 120gr, 160gr and 165gr Sierra HPBT and I will leave it at that. For four years in .257 7mm and .308 used the TSX and I do not like the terminal results and especially long range shots I have taken with the TSX and no longer use them.
