I find myself thinking about maybe picking up a new M70 Featherweight in .243 Winchester (I'd love to get a Sporter, but it appears as though Winchester doesn't make that combo). Has anybody played with a new manufacture .243 M70? Another question, does the triangular-shaped forearm hinder shooting off sandbags at all? I wouldn't think so, but there is not much wood there towards the end and flex might be an issue. Doc Mike? I know you are a FWT fan!

And yes, I do plan on shooting the crap out of in, with the thought of an eventual rebarrel to 6mm Remington!

Kurt, so when are you getting the rifle. I know if you are posting it, you are probably more than halfway to the gun store!

I would love to have an M70 243 for myself, but until my son claims his 243, I will just continue to shoot it as he lets me. I like the idea of rebarreling to 6mm Rem though. Scotty

Kurt,

In fact, I did buy a brand, spanking new Featherweight chambered in .243. I never even pulled the trigger, but delivered it to the boys in the back and asked them to convert it to a 338 Federal. No problem shooting off the bags. There is sufficient surface to ensure a solid rest.

Nah, Scotty, gotta wait to get home before I, uh, pull the trigger. Couple of weeks.

Ah, hopefully you have some 300 H&H rounds waiting for you as well!

Man, I hate having to wait in order to satisfy my wants... Instant gratification is the worst form of RADD!. Scotty

Yeah, I've been meaning to send you a PM, I got the H&H stuff. Thanks, brother! Did you mean to put a couple of Weatherby cases in there? I tumbled them for quite a while, and they still look pretty grungy, like they have been sitting around for a while! Cool stuff you sent me!

Yeah, I thought you wanted the Weatherby box as well. I also found a box of Winchester Factory loads when I cleaned up my bench. I tried fireforming a few Weatherby rounds with the H&H stuff, but the brass being old and brittle just wasn't working too well. Anyhow, when I get back, I will drop them in the mail as well. I love that 264 brass. Can't wait to dig into it! Scotty

Cool, man, glad you like it. That stuff should really bring out the best in you M70.

The Winchester factory loads will look really good sitting next to the Remington stuff! I love old ammo boxes!

Wow, that is one great collection! You need to build a big display case for those Kurt! Talk about the envy of every Man Cave. Scotty

I need a bigger man cave before that can happen!

Nice, .257! Yeah, Nolan got the bigger of the two extra bedrooms (and he needs it; he's my parent's only grandchild, so he acquires a lot of stuff) so the man cave stuff is split between the garage and the other spare bedroom, which is tiny, and also my office. It's pretty cramped in there with all my bookcases and a desk big enough to hold up my computer, what with dual monitors and a flatbed scanner it takes up a lot of space. When I get a new safe, I'm gonna have to figure out how to get it in there. It'll probably end up being a very expensive printer stand for my monochrome lazer printer and the color inkjet printer.

Was that H&H stuff some the cases that I gave you? Those cases were old as dirt!

+1. As slim as it looks, I was actually somewhat impressed with how well it sits on a sandbag.

These new M70s are well done and the Featherweight is a sweet little rifle. Go for it! :) :) :)

Fotis, as soon as I get it back, I'll be sure to post some pictures. I think it'll be fun, though it won't really add anything to my 358 or my 356s.
