I already have some test rounds loaded up. Just asking for entertainments sake. .243 Winchester, 26" barrel, 55gr lead free BT, IMR 3031 with an OAL of 2.725". I have test loads from 40gr up to 44gr in 1/2 gr increments, I don't expect to fire them all but I am hoping to find max. This is the powder I had on hand. Not my first round draft pick...lol.

Unusual indeed... "Lead free" changes the initial PSI, not familiar if it is solid copper or soft brass, or normal jacketed. Changes considerably in QL... so here is one of each.

Solid Copper: (6525 psi)
Code:
Cartridge : .243 Win.
Bullet : .243, 55, Nosler BTLF 45170
Useable Case Capaci: 50.841 grain H2O = 3.301 cm³
Cartridge O.A.L. L6: 2.725 inch = 69.22 mm
Barrel Length : 26.0 inch = 660.4 mm
Powder : IMR 3031

Predicted data by increasing and decreasing the given charge,
incremented in steps of 1.0% of nominal charge.
CAUTION: Figures exceed maximum and minimum recommended loads !

Awesome, thank you! I'd say that they are most like normal jacketed bullets, but the bearing surface is much longer than standard 55gr BT's. Did QL actually have the lead free BT in the library? Looks like it. Anyways, even with moly coated bullets it looks like I should be able to find max with my progression up to 44gr.

"BTLF"... I saw it and went for it.

I don't have any experience with them so please report back if you can.

I will later

I will report back with chrono results. I started a thread titled 6mm 55gr lead free a few days back. I was mostly talking about powders to try and there's quite a few good ones for this application, I happened to have IMR 3031 on hand so that trumps most...lol. I may end up buying a few more powders, I want to see how the 3031 plays out first.

Got these tested today and I'm really happy with the results! That's at least 5 shots ranging in velocity from an estimated 3900fps (Chrono didn't read a few shots when the sun came out?) Up to 4127fps!
