Young Jacob (age 13 in his second year of hunting) was sitting in a tree stand with his dad (Gary) on the morning of November 18th, Open Day of South Dakota's East River Deer Season. They heard something coming down the trail and Gary instructed young Jacob to get his .243 ready.
No it was not a Deer coming down the trail, but rather a Coyote emerged 15 yards from young Jacob's stand. What made this unusual was the Coyote had a dead Rooster Pheasant in it's mouth.
Young Jacob with the wherewithall of a verteran hunter placed a single bullet from his .243 into the Coyote. Nope this Coyote won't be killing or eating any more Pheasants. The Coyote was taken to the local taxidermist with the Pheasant still in it's mouth. Now this Coyote had such a death grip on this Pheasant that the taxidermist had to break the Coyotes jaw to remove the Pheasant.
Yep they are having a full body mount of the Coyote done with the Pheasant in it's mouth just like when young Jacob shot it.
My congratulations go out to young Jacob for collecting a trophy that most of us will never have the opportunity to harvest (or even see for that matter).
Thanks for reading.
