Here is a bird Jeff asked me to post up. I imagine he will be along to tell how he came upon this bird. Scotty

Excellent! Good looking bird. Virginia?

I cooked one yesterday, but sadly, I got it at the supermarket... Couldn't even shoot it, figured that would attract the wrong kind of attention...

That is a handsome bird, to be certain. Maybe Jeff will give us a blow-by-blow of the hunt so we can enjoy it vicariously.

Very cool! That is what is called a Smoke Phase coloration.
Looking forward to the story.

Ridge,

Congrats buddy. I have seen a couple Smokes here in the past but never shot one. What is the Red phase?

I've never seen the smoke colour on a turkey. It is certainly a delightful coloration.

a red
another I took a pic of a couple years ago, in this case it was a bearded hen, blind too I think or almost, took the pic from 4 steps away, she heard me in the grass and started putting, a few clucks on a call and she went back to eating

Ridge,

That Red is pretty cool looking. I have never seen the Red phase but I have seen the Smoke phase. A few years back, we had a Smoke hen hanging out in the back yard.

Cool stuff!

RR,

That red is pretty cool looking. Man, to tag some birds with those colour phases would be pretty fascinating. They are each certainly attractive.
