Filled my tag this weekend hunting with a couple friends and some great hounds. Was going to pass this female cat until we saw her broken and absessed canine tooth. We have a history with this cat going back six years when we first treed her-a short tail gives her away. She is a smart old cat but this run she gave up easy and it appeared the infected and broken tooth is leaving her emaciated. After I killed her with my bow we got a look at just how skinny she was. We figured she is nine years old, I submitted a tooth to the fish and game and will get it officially aged. Had hoped to kill a big male cat but when we treed this old gal we figured the right thing to do was to harvest the older, struggling animal. Still a pretty cat and great experience as expected. The hounds are of course the real stars of the show, I love the big cats and the chase.

That sounds as if it was a great hunt. Congratulations. She may have been emaciated and suffering, but you acted ethically. I'd say any cat can be a trophy, and she would qualify in my book.

She is beautiful and thanks for have a conscious and harvesting an animal who was in trouble.

She is beautiful and you should be congratulated for doing the right thing. Good job.

Way to go! Great hunt and glad you were able to take her! Sounds like it was a great time. I can't wait to get in on a mountain lion hunt. Think it would be a blast.

Here is a shot of her teeth which shows the black hole where her canine should be and not many other teeth left on top.

That's pretty neat and you likely kept her from a slow death. Great trophy!! I've gotten the chance to eat mountain lion steaks and burger and thought it was very good. Very mild flavored.

Congrats!
I salute you for doing what I and many others think was the right thing.

congratulations sounds like a fun hunt, cougar hunting is one of my dream hunts

I would love to build a log home with the big log rafters and have a cougar mount "watching" the entry way or the great room.... for now they will both be dreams

We share a similar dream. . .i killed this big Tom over a decade ago and had him done life size-something I've never regretted. When we bought a new home, having a vaulted ceiling for my cat was a major part of the decision. Someday I will have a cabin and a place where he looks more at home but for now I sure love him in my living room!
