I have a Utah cow elk hunt coming up. I will once again put the 257 Weatherby Magnum to work. Debating on my load. Leaning towards my 2010 standard 115 Nosler Partition at 3400 but was thinking on trying the 110 AccuBond at 3500 on a big old cow. I will let you know how it turns out in early December. HTO

I bet you weill be equally satisfied with the AccuBond! A young man I just took hunting shot a nice cow at 250 yards with my wife's 25-06 and 120 gr. Partition. She was quartered slightly and he hit her 10-12 inches behind her left shoulder and it EXITED right behind her right shoulder. She went 40 yards and dropped :!: I am going to work on the AccuBond for next year though. Didn't have enough time to get it done this year, but the Partition certainly didn't let us down :!:

Impressive stuff. These elk hunting reports have me re-evaluating the .25-06 & .257 Wby my son and I carry... Used to think of them as capable of deer, but not good choices for elk.

Bought 500 of those Nosler 115 Partitions and have been working with them a little. Looking good so far.

I would not be afraid of either the Partition or the AccuBond. For the last 4 years I have used either partitions or accubonds in my 270 win. I have shot heavy Saskatchewan whitetail deer, mule deer and both elk and moose and have had not problem. I shoot the 130gr bullet and they are hand loaded in my CDL.
Nosler has been at the top of the bullet manufacturing world for a long time and there is a reason for that :)

Blessings,
Dan

Good luck on your cow elk hunt. Looking forward to your report.

Good luck on your elk hunt! I hope you tag another with the PT. It is old John's year, so it is only fitting the PT gets used! I cannot wait to get my 25-06 shooting. I have been waiting forever to use a .257 cal rifle and now I have one and I am still trying to get it out hunting! Scotty

HTO -

My wife just took a cow elk last week with the 115BT out of my ( Ok, now her .257 Wby )
This round is a potent cartridge for elk - Good luck and we await your results.

Guy - My hunting buddy has used a 25-06 for elk since we were knee high to a grasshopper.

I too will be shooting a Utah cow elk... though my voucher is good for the month of January. I will be running the 100 E-Tip out of my .25-06... we'll see if we can punch a hole through a couple of mommy elk shoulders.

I have some of those on the bench too. Pass along your load SongDog if you don't mind. I bet they would be an awesome all around load! Fast and awesome penetration! Scotty

I'm shooting 63.5 grains of Ramshot Magnum with a WLRM primer, they're running right at 3300 (3311 avg.). Liked them best at .0025 off the lands... ran 3/4"... which is about as good as this rifle has ever really shot. For what it's worth... I've owned a lot of rifles that would shoot sub-1/2" routinely... and I've not noticed it made a difference in my ability to hit stuff at 300+ vs. my rifles that shot in the 3/4"-1" range. In fact, I pulverised every milk jug I shot at out to about 450 or so with this 3/4"-1" load, so it should do just fine on elk.
