Well, I had to sit out the morning hunt last Saturday. Daughter had a football game she was cheering at, so Mom took Brandon to the blind Saturday morning. They had a fairly light movement morning, till around 0830, my partner and his daughter shot a doe that came through. While they were tracking that, Lori and Brandon sat in their blind, not expecting too much activity with the other hunters tracking the doe.

Well, around 1000, this buck came directly into the blinds area, around 10-15 yards away. Lori and Brandon were chatting softly, and I guess the deer surprised them pretty good.. Brandon got the 20 gauge up, and planted a shot right on the spot. I think the buck might have gone about 20-25 yards before he piled up. He was shooting the Hornady 20 gauge SST's.. Blew straight in and out with a good, but short blood trail.

We were texting back and forth and to say those two were super adrenaline pumped is an understatement.

Proud Mom and Son

Dylann (9 Y/O daughter) and I hunted the evening hunt, but only had two does pass by outta range. It was a good evening hunt though, we got to watch a flock of turkeys and break in the blind a little more. Looking to be a good Fall for us here in the SE.

Great report, Scotty. Congratulations to Lori and Brandon; they done good! Dylann will connect shortly, I'm sure.

Nice job Scotty. Congratulations to Deer Hunter Team #1!
Team #2 will succeed shortly.

Perfect shot. You taught him well, Scotty. Congratulations to your boy and wife. And good luck to you and your daughter.

Very cool to see mom and son connect congrats. Looking forward to seeing how the rest of the youth season works out for you guys :)

Bow season starts Saturday. Did some practice climbing with the son last night. He took some shots out of his stand. Seems ready to hunt. What a crop of luck if he is able to skewer another deer this Saturday. Kid's gonna wear my knife out at this pace!

Yeah, that would break your heart, wouldn't it? Good luck to you, Brandon.

I like the Savage.. It is pretty accurate, but it seems to be smoothing out with the little bit of shooting we have done with it. My only real complaint is you need to run the bolt with authority to kick the shells outta the gun. Other than that, it is GTG. I haven't really shot the gun enough to see what it is really capable of, but it works fine for our hunting here.

My wife just got a Winchester SXP Deer Gun, so I will be shooting that a little in order to get it zerored up. I kinda like the pump's and auto's a little more for our type of hunting. The 2nd shot when deer are running past at hyper speeds are a pretty big help. I haven't had to shoot one twice, but I know it is coming and the quick follow up isn't a bad thing in this sorta hunting.

That is cool!! Gotta love it when these animals surprise you at such close range and then to compose oneself to make it happen.
Congrats!!

You aren't kidding! Stuff like that get's the adrenaline ringing!
