just got a new mod 700 rem30/06 ,went and got weaver split scope bases . took the leupold 4-12 scope off my mod742bdl but the scope will barely fit between the scope mounts.do they make a solid baes to attach the scope mounts so i can set my eye relief?

I think I understand your dilemna and might have a simple solution. Look into putting on an extension ring to give you the proper eye relief. Leupold makes them for sure.

There are a lot of different scope base and ring combinations that will allow you to move your scope forward or back as needed for proper eye relief. It may take a little research to figure out what you need, for your rifle. This is a photo of a Win 70 with Warne bases, allowing the scope to be positioned far forward. The Warne extension base in the rear is the key in this case.

These bases weren't needed for this rifle, I borrowed them off my prone match rifle, where they are necessary for proper eye relief in prone position, but they show up good on this photo. There are bases and rings that will let you position your scope where you need it. You'll need to do some digging though...

Go to a well supplied gun store for the fix or better, call Leupold and they will tell you exactly what you need.Rick.

look up midway part number 276-210 weaver top mount 1" rings with one extended. this solved my mounting issue on weaver mounts on a long 700 type action. http://www.midwayusa.com/ if that is the wrong finish it should get you close.
