Do any of our esteemed board members have any experience or actual pet loads using VV N160 powder? I was able to purchase 2- 8# cans for a good price and could purchase another if I wanted. It seems like this is an extremely versatile powder that fits most of the many cartridges that I load.

I did run a few test loads in 30/06 and 7mm Wea Mag that looked promising. In the 30/06, 56.0 grs with a 180 gr NBT got 2700 fps at sub moa in my Win 70 - 22 in barrel. Not bad for a first try, might just stop there! In my 7 Wea, 67.0 grs with a 162 Hor IL clocked 2950 fps with a 1.5 moa group. Velocity is about where I want it but guess I may have to play around with seating depth to get it to group a little tighter. I eventually want to standardize a load using 160 gr AB's.

Other calibers I load which are applicable to VV N160 are 243 Win, 260 Rem, 6.5x55, 270 Win, 7 Rem Mag, 8x57.

Any good data would be appreciated

I use quite a bit of Vhita Vuori powders for a variety of cartridges. Interestingly enough, though I've used it quite a bit, I almost always settled on either VN165 or VN560 in the cartridges I load. It wasn't because VN160 was a poor choice in those cartridges, but early on, I had difficulty finding VN160 though I could find the other powders. Nevertheless, it works quite well in the 7mm Bee on virtually all bullet weights. The same holds true in the 7RM and heavy for calibre bullets in the 30-06. The Vhita Vuori manual recommends it for heavy for calibre bullets in the 8X57 and across all bullet weights in the 270. I also see the powder appear in quite a few loads for the 6.5X55 and the 260. It is a versatile powder, and one which should serve you well. I have quite a bit on hand now and probably should be looking at it more than I do. However, being a creature of habit...

Thanks Dr Mike,

I reviewed the latest vv load data before buying the powder and saw how versatile it is. That is one of the reasons I bought it. Looking for some good pet loads if anyone might have them so I could compare book velocities with what people actually achieve.

My general impression is that real world loads are in line with velocities suggested by the Vhita Vuori manual. Again, I use a lot of VN165 and VN560 in a variety of loads for everything from the 260 up through the 300WSM. These two powders have served me well for many years. VN160 works equally well in the cartridges I load; I just have not used up my supply of the other powders at this point.

My first 2 load work ups were right in line with what they listed. I think N160 will end up being a good powder for me and I might go ahead and buy another 8# jug

If the price is right and you can score that much I can't see you losing out. I haven't used any but it isn't available much around here.

In the present climate, I'd be inclined to buy the last jug. The VN160 should serve you well.
