Thanks all. I'm really most excited about my son's cow elk tag... He's going to really enjoy that hunt I think.

HA! Me too. Can't wait to see John put the hammer down on an elk. Will it be his first one Guy?

I remember my first elk, got to hunt in Idaho in 2003, directly after I returned from OIF I (3rd / 4th Marines) and was beginning workups with the newly organized MCSOCOM Det One.

Those were the days!

Congratulations on the Tag. I sure your Son will have a good time also. Good Hunting.
Don't forget to post the Pictures of the Hunt.

Yes, he's shot whitetail, mule deer and black bear, but has never shot an elk. He's really looking forward to this, and I'm thinking we might not have enough freezer space if he and I both score on even some of the game for which we've got tags.

I think he'll use that good old .30-06 Model of 1917, though I have seen him looking at my .30-06 700 CDL lately...

165 gr Nosler Partition & H4350 with either rifle.

Guy

Careful, Guy, you know that those .30 calibre bullets launched from a .30-06 will only bounce off an elk. You'd better buy a new, really powerful rifle for John. Don't want to have him frustrated with bouncing bullets, now, do we.

That's great! 9 years! This is year 10 for me putting in for the "Rut" Mule tag in the Salmon River Breaks. Yours has got me hoping that "It could Happen"!!

Hi Guy just got back & read this post. Congratulation on the draw of a Mulie tag. I can't wait to hear your hunting story!! With lots of photos if possible.

Blessings,
Dan
