Wby ultralight in 280 Rem.

Remington has been a major force in legitimatizing a number of wildcats and in introducing some great cartridges. Their marketing skills don't always match their technical abilities, but it takes nothing away from their foresight.

Oddly enough, I've seen numerous green box ammo on shelves over the past few years designated "280Rem (7mmRem Express)" so I'm not sure what his difficulty was in finding ammo. Perhaps it occurred at an earlier timepoint where ammo was only designated 280Rem?

Remington has certainly had some boneheaded marketing over the years, haven't they? The 280Rem, the 6mmRem, the 6.5 & 350RemMag, the 222RemMag, the SAUMs - anybody see a trend? And then, of course, anything with 7mm (except the SAUM) seems to be a winner - 7mm-08, 7mmRemMag, 7mmRUM. Well, maybe not the RUM? Anyway, big green seems to be pretty poor at marketing. And it's a shame. Lots of good rounds by the wayside...

.222, .260, 8mm RemMag...

QC's a little lacking lately. That what happens when finance people run the company, rather than gun people.

It will be interesting if Winchester chambers the 280's again. I can only think it would make an excellent addition to the current line up. The 280 has been one of the rifles I have always wanted. Scotty

A .280 in an EW? I'd buy one in a heartbeat. A .280 in a Sporter? I'd hesitate just a second, then buy. A .280 in a FWT? I'd be camping in the fun (err, gun) store parking lot, waiting for them to open. Just like I used to do with rock concert tickets.

Same here, even with a 7WSM in the safe. I would love a FWT 280. Scotty

I have five 7mm rifles, and I still want a .280.

And a .284, but that might be a little more difficult.

Or Engineers! Cerrebrus is run by MBA's that is the problem. They listen only to the marketing people, not the technical, manufacturing people who know how to make it right and make it good. All Controllers know how to do is control! They do not know how to make anything.

Oldtrader - you are spot-on...big part of why I left the corporate world after 28 years putting up with bean counters and controllers making BS decisions on how products and services were delivered to the customer.

Me too, but I spent 40 years being told that what I did was nice but it cost too much and took too long to make money. I actually had a Controller tell me once "we could really make money if we did not have to have put up with customers", what a fool!

Browning (Winchester) still chambers the A-Bolt in .280 still, maybe they will bring back the Model 70 in .280 someday?

Quality still counts ... especially with guys that appreciate the "tools" used. I have to believe Winchester is aware of what is happening at big green and is looking at taking advantage of their inept offerings.

I would say this is a complete fact Joel... They have really stepped up their game a bunch since they have moved to SC. I am really looking for one of the new M70's, but until those old Winchesters quit shooting for me, I am hard pressed to say one is better than another. Although the hot glue bedding on the old ones is a pain. It is a 10.00 fix with a little dremel work and some Acra Gel. Scotty
