Wby Vanguard Deluxe

Nice.

I assume you've checked the torque on the action screws.
Check the recoil lug area to see how much open space is there. Some need obvious bedding, some don't.

If you need tips on fine tuning the trigger let me know.

Very nice Greg! That looks like a great rifle! Can't wait to see how it shoots.

An excellent rifle for a great area. The rifle will ultimately do its part when the time comes for you to dump an elk.

There are several things that only relate to Weatherby Vanguards,40lbs of torque on the action screws. snug the rear screw first then the front screw, torque the back screw then the front. Weatherby also beleaves that the #2 contour barrel on Vanguards need to have a pressure point in the front of the forend which I beleave is ( but not sure ) 16lbs.
If it were mine I would pillar and glass bed it with a free floated barrel.

Weatherbys are 35 in-lb for wood stocks, both Vanguard and Mark V, not 40 lbs (!) or even 40 inch-lbs. Pressure points are guesstimated to be 8-10 pounds but how they figure that based on the ones I've taken apart is beyond me. Some touch fully, others only a bit.

My Vanguard in 243 shoots the same whether it is in is pretty wood stock or free floated in the Hogue youth stock my girls use. So, I would not worry about that in the short term.

Greg, I have been shooting and loading for the 7mm Rem Mag since 1963. I have owned two 7mm Rem Mag's since 1963. The current rifle I bought in 1973. I shoot only 160 grain Partition bullets now, I used to shoot 140's and 150 gr bullets for deer but the 140's waste too much meat and the 160 gr are much better for elk.

Over the years, I have used Speer, Hornady and Nosler bullets. I have used H4831, IMR 4350 and IMR 7827 SSC powders. Presently I am using Winchester cases, Fed 215 MM primers, Nosler 160 Partition bullets, IMR 7828 SSC (66.0) grains which runs at about 3050-3060 fps and sub MOA groups.

My rifle is a Mauser Custom, 24 inch barrel with a Kahles 3.5-10x50 scope. Rifle is high comb for the scope. The 7mm Mag rifles have to be the greatest long range deer killers of all time. I can count of a one shot kill, DRT to 400+ yards every shot, if I do my part.

Great looking rifle  in one heck of a calibre!!!
I have been loading for the 7 mm mag for at least 25 years. The 160 ABs is as accurate a bullet as I have ever shot is one  I have been using IMR- 4350 but when I am finished the last can I will be switching to RL-22.

Blessings,
Dan
