I purchased a Savage 340 in 225 Win. that had an old Bushnell Scopechief 3 X 9 (the model with the command post) mounted in a Weaver side mount. When doing load developement, the scope's adjustments weren't very accurate, so I decided to upgrade. Wanting a little more power, I found a great deal on a Bushnell Trophy 4 X 12 - 40 AO. The objective bell wouldn't clear the barrel, nor would an Elite 3200 3 X 9 - 40 I had on hand. I found the higher mount, which actually puts the scope to the right of the centerline of the bore. Well, the objective clears but the bolt handle won't! Any suggestions as to scopes with smaller ocular bells? By the way, this rifle really shoots.

I think the scope chief has a 28MM occular. If my memory is correct. The closest i have found was 33MM In my scopes. Old scopes where built smaller, You might try to get the scope chief rebuilt. Mine is a 4x with post retical that needs rebuilt also. lens's are milky
