Well...it was fun while it lasted.

Being able to walk out the back door and shoot 1,200 yards that is...but its all over.

I've known it was coming for a while now, but my wife called last night and told me Darrell (the fine gentleman that owned the property next to mine) has passed away...it has already been worked out who will buy the property and he has done said "No huntin, no shootin, and no trespassing!"

I've been shooting across that property for almost 30 years now, kinda feels like I've been kicked off my own land, LOL....

So...Last night I did what I swore I'd never do...I joined a firing range, that was the only thing I could do besides shoot on the same place I hunt (can go 700 yards there). The range has a 600 yard rifle range now but it shoots over the 200 yard range so it has certain days it can be used. They told me they are in the process of buying an adjoining property, then it will be 800 yards in a separate range...$100/ year just to have a place to stretch em out.

I still have a nice lil 100 yard range there at home (my own land)...not really a "range", but a place to shoot.

30 miles from home, $100/ year...and I'll likely end up getting hooked on the pistol shoots too (I've done them before on occasion)...I foresee this getting expensive

I applied online, then talked to Dr. Bryant this morning on the phone and was accepted...still gotta do the orientation and test when I get home but I don't think that will be a problem.

Sounds like a bargain. Here in my home town, it is a seventeen km drive to the range, which isn't bad. It is $80/year to join and $10 for the key to the gate. That is a real bargain as other nearby ranges are now charging $250 and up, just for the privilege to shoot. Granted, we do not have all the land we would like, but the range does have two handgun ranges, a 100 yard range and a 400 yard range, a trap and skeet range with room for three-stand, and an archery range. There is a walking trail for black powder and archery with targets nestled among the trees. For longer range, we have to go to private ranges. Times change, and we find ourselves adapting to the changes. Best of luck in your new association.

Sux is right...downright depressing to be honest...but like you said, not much else one can do.

It was good while it lasted!

Joining a club is always good. I have been on the BOD for a few years, last year VP and this year The Prez of our club. I am stepping down at the end of this year and back on the BOD.
More time to shoot and lest time cleaning the toilets.

That does suck. I have to drive 18 miles but the fee is only $10 per year and they give you the combo to the gate. The range is 200 yards long. I did just catch wind that there is a 300 yard range about 25 miles away

Yeah...its a nice range...and the price ain't bad (I still prefer free though, LOL)...there is another one thats only about 15 miles away but they only have a 100 yard range and none of the perks of TAC2.

Those perks being:
Members can buy firearms at cost + $20
After 3 years uninterrupted membership...members can buy them at cost.
The training available there...and very qualified instructors...I want my wife to take the defensive handgun classes, she wants to take them too.

I'm gonna make the best of it...it will likely be lots of fun...but I'm gonna miss just walking out the back door.

I only pay $35/year because I am retired, plus $2 per visit range fees at Custer Range. It is only 5 miles from my home but only has 200 yards for rifle. We have a nice pistol range because it is near the border and all the LEO's and Homeland Security shoot there.

I joined the local club this year for $25 did it in June still haven't made it out there 10 miles away. They have steel out to 600. But it's tough when you have a 400 yard range off your front porch. I guess maybe tomorrow I'll venture over there and verify drop for the 280AI before I go deer hunting this week.

I've been a member of TRC since 1980. If they haven't raised the price of membership, a family can all shoot for $75 a year. That was raised from $65 a year a couple of years back. Rather than try to explain all the amenities I'll let you look for yourselves. It's one hell of a cool range.

My only complaint is it's a 25 mile drive from my front door. There are two other ranges, the new county range which is very nice but extremely regulated. It too is a 25 mile drive from my front door. The also have another that is only about 5 miles from my front door, highly regulated and no shade. Take a look see at all the different types of shooting one can do from combat to silhouette to even a 1,000 yards range.
