Sorry - crying in my proverbial beer a little bit here. I have support for deer hunting (the only season I can really get out for any more) and its over. The guys put me in a good spot and I saw more der than most of them. Missed two shot (clean fortunately). One was @200 yds. The slug hit just under the chest, The other was a standing frontal shot @100+ that I pulled low right. I will say that shooting from a vehicle sucks. Deer tend not to stand around in front of a car window. (before anyone blows a cork- with my impairment its legal for me to shoot from a vehicle).

I know that's hunting, and I wouldn't have it any other way.... I don't expect to be successful all the time....and I am truly blessed that I can go at all. First snow of the season came today and that will put an end to most things for 4 months. So give me something to look forward too.... CL

It sure is great that you are able to get out hunting. Too bad about the misses but it happens to us all, better luck next year.

Great to see you here.
Sorry about the circumstances but you are getting out. Keep at it and have fun.
God Bless !

Those who have never been compelled to shoot from a vehicle would have no concept of the difficulties entailed. You had two shots, Troy; that in itself is pretty good. As Gerry stated, it is great that you were able to get out. We're proud to see you posting, even when it is a bit of a downer for you.

When I was younger I would use a farmer's jeep he had for various chores on the farm to ride the fields and hunt ground hogs since the jeep didn't bother them as much as a man walking and it was difficult trying to get into position behind the steering wheel sometimes to get a decent shot off.

I have not been hunting since I got remarried in 2007. I am happy just being able to get to the range fairly regularly. This year I haven't made it due to health issues. Plus with a cane and oxygen, I can only take one gun at a time.

I am still happy to have my guns and what little freedom to use them that the yuppies here in La-La Land have left for us to legally use them. I can't even take my grandson to the range anymore without making both of us felons.

I am more worried about lack of freedom that than I am about dying. Freedom once lost usually cost a lot of blood to get back!

I am happy that the holidays are coming and I will get to see family. Plus, tomorrow is Veteran's Day to celebrate our freedoms which we still have and remember those who died for us to have them!

thanks for all the kind words fellas. Believe me, I realize how lucky I am. I have had many, many wonderful hunting experiences and I would go without a gun just for the camaraderie and the stories. will be working on a little better idea for a rest or flatter surface on the edge of the window for next year. In addition I will be doing some practice from the vehicle.
like I said, now I just need to find something to do. I will resume my search for A improved trigger for the Mossberg, as something less than a 6 pound pull wouldn't hurt.CL

It is great that you were able to do some hunting and enjoy the company of other hunters. It sounds like your hunting buddies are looking out for you.

Maybe you could connect two sand bags (shot bags filled with kitty litter) with a piece of cloth (or straps) kind of like saddle bags. If you get the the cloth (straps) length just right the bags will straddle the window opening and the rifle can rest on the tops of the bags.

Or, you try a window shooting bag like this one at Midwayusa.com: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/930198 ... uctFinding

MidwayUSA has several bags like this one. Not all are in stock right now. Maybe you could put on on your Christmas wish list.

I like the bags, if even just to have some where to rest the rifle between shots. I am looking for something a little wider to provide more of a ledge to keep the shotgun from canting or rocking forward when the trigger is pulled. I have a bad habbit of pulling the rifle (shotgun) back into my shoulder as I yank the trigger and this causes some low shots. (I know the problems - some of them any way- correct practice is the answer but I can use all the help I can get). Thanks for the link.... See doesn't take long and I'm hatching a plan for next year.... CL
