well not happy with the leupold dot reticle, Early morning/evening cant see the dot or crosshairs, thinking of sending it in for a different reticle, I wish they still made german #2(but they dont) so I was thinking the #1.

Any suggestions

Call Leupold Customer Service and inquire about the German #2 reticle.

That is a great choice JD. They used that when I was stationed in Germany for night hunts!

Definately give Leupold a call ! It's not too bad of deal to change X-hairs in most of their line.
I know what you mean. The scopes I grew up with were mostly 16X & 12X Leupolds that had been sent off to T.K. Lee and had the dot cut down even further. That is what my Dad started me out hunting on. Since one of the 12X broke a reticle and I changed that one in a heart-beat when I sent it back.

Educate me. I thought the leuy dot wasnt right for me, but I have always liked the dot in Dads 1964 k-4 weaver. It has beeen described to me as a "2 min" dot. Cant remember how that compares but I think its bigger than the luey dot. How does it coompare to the "German #2"? CL

The German #4 works great for me for early or late hunting. I have two Leupold VXII's 3-9X50 that I sent off to Premier Reticles a few years ago when they still worked on Leupold scopes. I had click adjustments put into them and a German style reticle that has a lot thicker outer lines in the bottom and sides than the #4 Leupold but still has the thin cross hair center that is great for all hunting conditions. You might not be able to see the thin cross hair when it is very, very, low light but you can bracket your game in the heavy parts and do just fine.

the german post #2 post tapers to a point in the center of the scope and has a fine horzontal cross hair.

Which scope do you have?

What type of hunting are you going to use it for?

I'm thinking that the answer you got may be due to the scope model and the German #2 reticle.

You might still be able to get a different reticle. The standard duplex is a great choice. Close range and low light for the heavy duplex. I have this reticle on a M8 4x for a muzzle loader and it works very well. It was a little too much reticle but it still worked for me taking a large WT doe at a lasered 167 yds at last legal light a couple years back.

Once I have this information, I will PM you with the proper person to contact at Leupold.

Does anyone really like a target dot anyway? I only know one person that I have talked to that likes them. I can't stand them. I accidentally ordered a Target dot on my Nikon scope...man was I mad but I caught it before it was shipped out. got my duplex and I'm happy. The only good thing about the target is the real thin crosshair, then they go and screw that up by putting this big old blob right where you want your hair to be the finest lol!

I like it on my Hunter class rifle.
the dot fits just perfectly on the circle at the center of the redfield style targets.

Also if you have multipe circle type targets, it's easy to align within the center circle. This is really a special purpose reticle for target shooters.

Depends what you want. That 2 min dot in Dads K-4 makes it about as quick on target as anything out there. IMHO. Yes shooting sub inch groups at 100 yards is a bit of a guessing game but thats not what hes doing with the rifle. It can be done though and if I knew I was in for a running shot at a coyote our a WT in the bottom of a Draw I'd reach for that . Just me though CL

A few years back I picked up a used rifle, that had a 6x Leupold with the Leupold Dot reticle in it. The rifle didn't last long here - but that scope really interested me and it's found a home on my .22 Marlin 39A.

I've got it sighted-in at 50 yards. Just swing the dot onto target, press the trigger and one varmint down. Target shooting on little metal swingers is a hoot too. Dot on the target, press the trigger, and watch 'em spin!

Leupold told me that the dot actually covers 1.9 MOA, which might rule it out for some purposes, but for the way I'm using this rifle - I like it!
