what bullet is federal is using in the federal fusion factory ammo,,,

They're using a bullet of their own design and manufacture (or through a contract manufacturer). It's a great design, using a lead core and plating the jacket onto the core for true adherence. Just about the only question I have about their process (which I'm sure is 'proprietary') is are they plating with pure copper or have they figured out some way to lay down an alloy jacket over the lead core?

The one real downside to all this is that you cannot get the bullets for handloading purposes. I checked with Federal and they said they have no plans to offer them, either.

I spoke with Federal something like a couple of years ago. I'd be thrilled to discover they had a change of heart on that. I think ATK (the parent company of Fed & Speer these days) has really dropped the ball on promoting the Speer line of bullets, and I hope they're able to bring them back up to a level with Hornady and Nosler. I've had excellent results from Speer bullets over the years, and they are responsible for the most accurate group I've ever fired. I wonder what innovations are coming? Hopefully something good.

so i cant get them for reloads,, thats a bummer ,, i had shot a box of the fusions and they gave me exelent groups out of a 270 wsm,, pop says there the same as the speer ATK ,, im gonna have to look into that,,,,

If you like the bullet and the groups you get, why not buy some more factory loads and go hunting? Just thinking out loud...

You will be able to get them. They are to replace all Speer Hot cores......in time.

You will be able to get them. They are to replace all Speer Hot cores......in time.

Well, that sucks! I like the Hot-Cor design. It's been terrific for accuracy in several of my guns, and it takes game with authority.
