i did make three rounds ( 30/06 ) at .025 off the lands with 56.5 of IMR 4350,, first shot hit ,, second and third shots hit about 2'' from the first,, two and three were darn near in the same hole but like i said they were about two inches from the first shot,, what causes this???? the barrel was semi warm and i dont think i jerked it

Clean barrels, fouled barrels, too far from the lands and some times primers.
Oh... from time to time loose scope mounts and bag trigger pulls.
 :p

I used to shoot a .308 that routinely planted the first shot an inch or so above the rest of the shots. Darned accurate rifle once a few rounds had been through it each day.

Once it was properly bedded, that never happened again. From then out, it just shot nice tight bug holes.

it always shot well until i started re-loading :( in fact i shot about eight factory rounds of Rem corelocks in 165gr to see how they grouped and all was good,, then i switched to my re-loads and itl went to one shot being off from the rest,, its got to be the loads im thinking,, but i bet a good bedding job could'nt hurt

if im getting good groups with the factory rounds at there col settings would it be benificial to set my col at those settings ???? just a thought

IF you are using the same bullet as the factory round, it would probably
be beneficial to do that. If you are using another bullet, a comparator
might be in order so that you are leaving the same length of bullet
bearing surface out of the neck of the case.

It was only three rounds.
Can't tell much with only three rounds.
Try three more groups of three rounds each. If the patern continues, you have something to work on. If not, maybe if was just a flyer...

im doing that very thing as we speak  :) i made four the same as the load where i got two holes touching,, and i also made four the same except i set them .005 ( .030 off lands ) deeper to see what i would get,, im hopeing this is not just a fluke ,, ive never had any re-loads touching before so im hopeing that it prints well

Romex, great plan.
But while you are at it, why not load the whole box?
4 touching
4 .005 off
4 .01 off ( alot of folks like this length)
4 .015 off
and 4 at .020 off (one of my rifles likes this length)

If you find something it seems to like, load a full box, and shoot 5 or 6 groups. Then you will now if you have something.
